Dempsey, Women’s 4x100 Get Wins as LHU Competes at Bison Five-Way

LEWISBURG, Pa.  – Competing against all Division I squads, the Lock Haven University track and field teams picked up 11 top-five finishes yesterday (April 23) at the Bison Five-Way, hosted by Bucknell University

The women’s team picked up 95 points in fourth place, while the men finished fifth with 63.5 points.

The women’s 4x100 relay picked up top honors as Ashley Hartman (Garrett, Pa./Berlin Brothersvalley), Kirsten Schuyler (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport), Laura Phillips (York, Pa./Central York) and Maggie Borden (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) combined to finish in 49.31. Borden also earned a second- and third-place finish in the 200 and 800 meters, respectively.

Freshman Nicole Kulp (Hatboro, Pa./William Tennent) earned a runner-up spot with a 17-foot-9 leap in the long jump, coupling that with a third-place finish in the triple jump. Schuyler took second in the high jump at 5-feet-1.

For the Bald Eagles, sophomore high-jumper Jim Dempsey (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) tied for first, picking up the top finish for the men’s team. The field events paced the men’s squad, as junior Fieldon Daubert (Annville, Pa./Annville-Cleonia) took second in the javelin at 182-feet-8, and senior Tom Skrivanek (St. James, N.Y./Smithtown) earned runner-up status in the long jump at 21-feet-6.

Skrivanek coupled with Sean Hvizdzak (Bradford, Pa./Bradford), Tim Hite (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) and Mike Brito (Union, N.J./Union) for a third-place finish in the 4x100 relay.

Hartman, Schuyler, Phillips, Borden, Kulp, Dempsey, Daubert, Skrivanek, Hvizdzak, Hite, Brito and the rest of the LHU track and field teams are back in action Thursday, April 28 at the Penn Relays, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania.
