LHU Women and Men Take Fifth at PSAC Championships

   

MANSFIELD, Pa. – The Lock Haven University men’s track and field squad got a pair of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) champions in the final day of action at the PSAC Outdoor Championships, hosted by Mansfield University. The Bald Eagles bumped up one spot from sixth, while the women’s side also finished fifth.

Junior William Buckenmeyer (Alexander, N.Y./Alexander Central) earned his first career PSAC championship in the steeplechase, a stadium record of 9:30.49. Sophomore Chris Robson (Lewisberry, Pa./Red Land) took second with a 9:35.67. Sophomore Jim Dempsey (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) made a clean sweep of the 2004-05 conference championships in the high jump, clearing the bar with a stadium record 6-feet-9 leap.

Senior Chris Cowan (Horseheads, N.Y./Thomas A. Edison) picked up All-PSAC status in the 5,000 meters (15:13.60). Aaron Benson (Mt. Jewett, Pa./Kane Area) also finished fifth in the event.

Senior Mike Brito (Union, N.J./Union) narrowly-missed All-PSAC status with a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles. Senior Joe Wiegner (Ivyland, Pa./James Madison University) took fifth in the 1,500 meters and Shawn Clancy (Hornell, N.Y./Hornell) took the same spot in the 110-meter hurdles.

On the women’s side, no champions joined yesterday’s pole vault title-winner Angela Kramer (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove), but three picked up All-PSAC finishes. Sophomore Mary Ewanich (Cornwall, N.Y./Cornwall) earned the Lady Eagles’ lone second place spot with a 1:03.77 finish in the 400 meter hurdles.

Sophomore Ginger Williams’s (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) 134-foot-10 toss in the disc earned All-PSAC honors, while classmate Maggie Borden (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) also added a third-place finish in the 400 meters at 57.30. Borden also took sixth in the 200 meters.

The 4x100 relay picked up fourth place and Kathleen Davey (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) and Brittany Turner (Wilmington, Del./John Dickinson) earned fourth and sixth in the 1,500 meters. Turner added another sixth place in the 800 meters.

Shippensburg University took the men’s title, while Kutztown University women’s squad picked up their win.
