Bald Eagles Take Third; Lady Eagles Fourth At Division I Meet

(Lewisburg, Pa.) - The Lock Haven
University of Pennsylvania outdoor men’s and women’s
track and field teams both produced competitive
performances at the Bucknell ‘Five-Way’ against
Division I opponents. The Bald Eagle squad finished in
third place in the team race while the Lady Eagles came
away with a fourth-place rank.
The Bald Eagles
recorded four first-place finishes en route their team
total of 97 points. The University of Rhode Island
captured the team title with 197 points followed by
Bucknell University with 149 points. Rounding out the two
remaining spots after the Haven, Duquesne University had
87 points while Robert Morris was fifth with 83 points.
Recording
the top time in the PSAC this season, the 4x400 meter
relay of Tim Hite (Altoona/Altoona), Keith
Veldhuis (Thamesford, ONT/Ingersoll DCI), Mike
Brito (Union, N.J./Union) and Anesu Mushonga
(Harare, Zimbabwe/Prince Edward) took first at the
meet with a winning time of 3:18.19.
In
addition to his relay victory, Mike Brito also took
first in the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 54.66. Andy
Pollison (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) was
tops in the pole vault, clearing a height of 14’8-3/4”
for the win. Logging his best jump of the outdoor season,
freshman Jim Dempsey (Blue Bell/Wissahickon) went 6’6-3/4”
to capture first place in the high jump, a mark ranking
him second on the current PSAC performance list.
The
Lady Eagles had one first-place finish as they took fourth
place overall at the ‘Five-Way’ meet. Bucknell was
firmly planted in the top spot with 298.5 points, followed
by Robert Morris (121) and Duquesne (100). The Haven was
fourth with 61 points and Colgate rounded out the group
with 32.5 points.
Maggie
Borden (Hanover/Delone Catholic) ran a 25.79 in the
200 meters to secure first place and was also third in the
400 meters in 58.65, her personal best during this outdoor
campaign.
Borden added to her individual successes by anchoring the
second-place 4x400 meter relay. The foursome of Melissa
Namey (New Kensington/Burrell), Diane Sujansky
(Plum/Plum), Laura Phillips (York/Central York)
and Borden crossed the finish in a combined time of
4:01.65, its best of the season. The same group would go
on to record its best time of the season in the 4x100
meter relay as well, placing fourth overall in 49.70.
Certain members of the Lock Haven
University men’s and women’s track and field teams
will compete at the Penn Relays this week. The Penn Relays
extend from April 20-24.
