LHU TRACK & FIELD COLLECTS HIGH MARKS AT CORNELL CHALLENGE

(Ithaca, N.Y.) - The Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania outdoor men’s and women’s track and field teams traveled to Ithaca, N.Y., to compete in the Cornell Challenge, returning with several Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) leading performances along with a national qualifier and one school record.
          In the men’s competition, Lock Haven posted three first-place honors along with seven runner-up finishes. Nick Slotterback (Lewisburg/Lewisburg) won the javelin with an NCAA qualifying throw of 208’0”, a mark which ranks him second on the conference’s performance list.
          The 4x400 meter relay of Tim Hite (Altoona/Altoona), Tom Skrivanek (St. James, N.Y./Smithtown). Mike Brito (Union, N.J./Union) and Anesu Mushonga (Harare, Zimbabwe/Prince Edward) captured the to finish, clocking a 3:23.66 to outdo the rest of the field.
          The first three runners to cross the finish of the 5000 meters were all wearing the Lock Haven Crimson and White led by freshman Chris Robson (Lewisberry/Red Land). Robson finished in 15:39.17 for the win, followed by teammates Billy Buckenmeyer (Alexander, N.Y./Alexander Central) in second (15:41.09) and Ryan Blood (Summerdale/East Pennsboro) in third (15:53.24).
          Recording a second-place finish in the high jump was Haven frosh Jim Dempsey (Blue Bell/Wissahickon), whose clearance of 6’8-3/4” currently leads the PSAC. Fieldon Daubert (Annville/Annville-Cleona) took second in the hammer throw, setting a school record in the process with his heave of 164’3”.
          The Lady Eagle tracksters also turned in a solid performance, collecting one first place along with four second-place finishes. The quartet of Melissa Namey (New Kensington/Burrell), Diane Sujansky (Plum/Plum), Mary Ewanich (Cornwall, N.Y./Cornwall) and Maggie Borden (Hanover/Delone Catholic) took first in the 4x400 meter relay, claiming the win in 4:07.41.
          Sujansky, Borden, and Namey teamed up with Laura Phillips (York/Central York) to place second in the 4x100 meter relay in 49.81.
          Borden was also second in the 400 meter dash, crossing the finish in 57.31 to lead all PSAC runners in the event.
          In the field events, two Lady Eagles claimed runner-up finishes including Sara McCleary (Rockton/DuBois) in the high jump with her best jump of the season at 5’3-3/4” and Richelle Reed (Georgetown/South Side Beaver) in the discus with a throw of 119’7”.
