COWAN AND SLOTTERBACK WRAP UP NCAA COMPETITION
Slotterback Wins Second-Straight National Javelin Title

(Walnut, Calif.) - Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania track and field’s Nick Slotterback (Lewisburg/Lewisburg) claimed his second-straight NCAA Division II javelin title [view full release] and Chris Cowan (Horseheads, N.Y./Thomas A. Edison) competed in the 5,000 meter finals in the last day of the 2004 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Walnut, Calif. 
            Slotterback defended his NCAA title with a winning throw of 217’10” in the javelin earlier today.  A senior, he wraps up his career as a two-time national champion and a three-time All-American after placing third in his sophomore season.  Slotterback also claimed back-to-back Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) titles in the javelin in 2003 and 2004.
            Cowan finished 12th with a time of 15:14.24 in the 5,000 meter finals this evening. The junior distance standout won his preliminary heat in 14:45.42 yesterday to advance to the finals.  This season Cowan claimed the PSAC individual title in both the 5,000 and 10,000 meters.
            Lock Haven has now concluded its competition at the 2004 NCAA championships, finishing in a five-way tie for 23rd place in the men’s team race with 10 total points.
