EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. –
The Lock Haven University men’s track and field team
is doing their best to make it four straight indoor
Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)
championships. After day one of the two-day event,
the men’s team is first and the women’s team ranks
second.
The
LHU men have 59 points, 21 ahead of Shippensburg
University. The women’s squad is second with 28
points, 21 behind first-place Kutztown University.
Junior
Keith Veldhuis (Thamesford,
Ontario/Ingersoll DCI)
picked up his first indoor decathalon PSAC title,
amassing 3663 points. LHU took 1-2 in the 5000
meters, as sophomore
Aaron Benson (Mt. Jewett, Pa./Kane Area)
and junior
William Buckenmeyer (Alexander, N.Y./Alexander
Central) both bettered the Indoor PSAC
Championship record. Benson, now a two-time champion
in the event, bettered his own record with a
14:58.87 finish.
Junior
Fieldon Daubert (Annville, Pa./Annville-Cleonia)
rounded out the trio of LHU men’s champions on day
one with a first-place finish in the weight throw.
The
4x800 relay and the distance medley relay took
second and third, respectively.
The
women’s team was powered by a third place distance
medley relay and a 3-4 finish in the long jump
courtesy of
Bri Palazzi (Altoona, Pa./Altoona)
and
Nicole Kulp (Hatboro, Pa./William Tennent).
LHU
also took a 4-5 finish in the weight throw with
tosses from
Maria McGettigan (Mesa, Ariz./Mesa C.C.)
and
Natalie Marsh (Glendale, Ariz./Glendale C.C.).
Veldhuis, Benson, Buckenmeyer,
Daubert, Palazzi, Kulp, McGettigan, Marsh and the
rest of the LHU track and field teams finish up the
PSAC Championship tomorrow, Feb. 27.
