LEWISBURG, Pa.
Three school records fell, and five Bald Eagles
hit for NCAA Provisional Qualifying marks, as the
Lock Haven University track and field teams excelled
at the Bison Outdoor Classic April 15-16, hosted by
Bucknell University. Senior
Chris Cowan (Horseheads, N.Y./Thomas A. Edison),
sophomore
Holly Bofinger (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent)
and the womens 4x800 relay all set school marks.
The mens squad posted
four of the five NCAA Provisional marks in distance
events, as Cowan and sophomores
Ryan Blood (Summerdale, Pa./East Pennsboro)
and
Aaron Benson (Mt. Jewett, Pa./Kane Area) all
hit in the 5000 meters. Cowans 14:26.08 earned him
a school record and third place in the event. Junior
William Buckenmeyer (Alexander, N.Y./Alexander
Central) joined his fellow distance specialists
with a school-record and qualifying 9:23.1 in the
steeplechase.
Rounding out the NCAA
qualifiers was junior
Fieldon Daubert (Annville, Pa./Annville-Cleonia)
with a 195-foot-7 heave in the javelin. Defending
Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Field
Athlete of the Week
Jim Dempsey (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon)
earned the mens teams lone first-place finish with
a 6-foot-9 leap in the high jump.
On the womens side,
two LHU records fell, as Bofinger set the
10,000-meter mark at 38:02.63 and the 4x800 relay of
Kathleen Davey (Springfield, Pa./Springfield),
Nikki Rhian (South Williamsport, Pa./South
Williamsport Area),
Brittany Turner (Wilmington, Del./John
Dickinson), and
Missy Weaver (Denver, Pa./Garden Spot) took
third place in 9:45.59.
Earning wins for the
Lady Eagle side were sophomore
Maggie Borden (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic)
in the 400 meters and freshman
Angela Kramer (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) in
the pole vault.
All told, LHU hit 50
PSAC-Qualfying marks.
Cowan, Bofinger, Blood,
Benson, Buckenmeyer, Daubert, Dempsey, Davey, Rhian,
Turner, Weaver, Borden, Kramer and the rest of the
LHU track and field teams will be back in action
Saturday, April 23 as they travel back to Lewisburg
for the Bucknell Five-Way.
