2004-2005 MEN'S
TRACK & FIELD OUTLOOK
It looks like another strong year for Lock Haven
University’s men’s track and field team.
Head coach Mark Elliston, now in his 16th year, said
word has gotten out about Lock Haven’s strong track and
field program.
“We
are getting to the point to where the program recruits
itself,” Elliston said.
Having capped three PSAC indoor championships in a row,
high school track stars are choosing to come to Lock
Haven University over some other schools because
of the great track team, he said.
Elliston said this year he expects another banner
season, with the return of several standouts to give the
Bald Eagles some serious punch.
Some
of the returning Bald Eagles expected to perform well
include:
- Chris Cowan
(Horseheads, N.Y./Thomas
A. Edison),
distance.
- Joe Wiegner
(Ivyland, Pa./Council
Rock),
mid-distance.
- Aaron Benson
(Mt. Jewett, Pa./Kane
Area),
distance.
- Keith Veldhuis
(Thamesford, Ontario/Ingersoll
DCI), decathlon.
- Jim Dempsey (Blue
Bell, Pa./Wissahickon), jumps.
- Ryan Blood
(Summerdale, Pa./East
Pennsboro), distance.
- Tim Hite (Altoona,
Pa./Altoona Area), sprints.
- Mike Brito (Union,
N.J./Union), hurdles.
- Fieldon Daubert (Annville,
Pa./Annville-Cleonia), throws.
- Ed Kaminski (Toms
River, N.J./Toms River South), throws.
If
the tough group of returning talent is not enough,
Elliston also is expecting great things from some of
this year’s freshmen.
Newly-recruited standouts include Frank Graham
(Reading, Pa./Reading), high
jump; Corey Spidell (Home,
Pa./Marion Center),
Greg Davis (Catawissa/Southern
Columbia),
Shawn Moore (Elverson,
Pa./Twin Valley),
distance; and Sean Hvizdzak (Bradford,
Pa./Bradford), sprint relays.
Elliston invites the public to
come out and enjoy the action for the 2004-2005 season.

WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD OUTLOOK
Head coach Mark Elliston, who has been running
the track and field program at Lock Haven University for
16 years, knows the program’s reputation speaks for
itself.
The
coaches are accustomed to seeing talented young athletes
come up through the ranks, show their stuff, and leave
their mark on an already strong program.
Elliston said that the 2004-2005 year will be a building
time for the Lady Eagles. Even so, he is confident in a
number of returning athletes, as well as the
underclassmen who have joined the team.
Some
of the returning standouts include:
- Maggie Borden (Hanover,
Pa./Delone Catholic), sprints, relays.
- Sara McCleary (Rockton,
Pa./DuBois), high jump.
- Brianna Palazzi (Altoona,
Pa./Altoona), long and triple jump.
- Mary Ewanich (Cornwall,
N.Y./Cornwall), hurdles, relays.
- Brooke Rangi (Kawerau,
New Zealand/Kawerau College), hurdles, heptathlon.
- Laura Phillips (York,
Pa./Central York), jumps, sprints.
Some
of the new recruits Elliston expects to see results from
include:
- Nicole Kulp (Hatboro,
Pa./William Tennent), jumps and sprints.
- Amanda Reinemiller (Conyngham,
Pa./Hazleton), jumps and sprints.
- Jen Andrews (Chambersburg,
Pa./Chambersburg), throws.
The
Lady Bald Eagle team has won the two of the last three
indoor PSAC championships, Elliston said, and he expects
the team will step up this year to the annual contest.
Elliston would like to invite the fans to come out and
enjoy the action for the 2004-2005 season.
