(Lock Haven, Pa.) - The Lock Haven women’s volleyball team captured a 3-1 match victory over the visiting Fighting Scots of Edinboro in its opening PSAC Western Division match-up and home-opener.  Lock Haven improves to 8-1 on the season and is now 1-0 in the PSAC West. Edinboro moves to 8-6 overall and 0-1 in the PSAC West.
The Lady Eagles fought back from an 8-1 deficit to open the first game, knotting the score at 10-10 before inching ahead and gradually taking the 30-23 win.  Edinboro jumped out into the early lead again in game two, taking a quick 7-0 advantage from the start.  The Haven would claw to within two points at 14-12 and stay close but the Fighting Scots were too much and took the 30-25 score to tie up the match at a game each.  The Lady Eagles asserted themselves from the start in the third game, never trailing before securing the 30-24 win.  The longest game of the match was the fourth as both teams battled it out through 10 ties up to 21-21.  Edinboro moved out into the 21-16 lead after a five-point run, but The Haven’s Cherry Li (Shanghai, China) ran off a string of service aces as LHU equalized then moved ahead, 24-21, before the end of that rotation.  Once in the lead LHU continued towards the match victory, finalizing it at 30-26.
Freshman middle Cherry Li led the Lady Eagles with 19 kills, 18 digs and six service aces.  Sophomore outside hitter Michelle Deehan (Upper Marlboro, Md./Gwynn Park) added 13 kills while junior middle Lillian Bortoto (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Campos Salles) posted 10 kills and four blocks. Junior hitter Kristi Kauffman (York/Central York) recorded nine kills and nine digs and sophomore setter Allison Furry (Guys Mills/Maplewood) totaled 47 assists.
