(Lock
Haven, Pa.) - The
Lady Eagle volleyball team swept the series this evening
with conference opponent
Clarion
University
(25-7, 4-3 PSAC
West), capturing a 3-0 (30-23, 30-21, 30-26) match victory
at home in Thomas Fieldhouse.
Lock Haven, now 24-4 overall and 6-1 in the PSAC
West, had defeated Clarion, 3-1, on the road earlier this
season.
In game one, the Lady Eagles pushed ahead steadily
after a 12-12 tie to take a 29-19 lead. Clarion turned out
four straight points with the game on the line to bring
the score to 29-23 before Lock Haven was able to pocket
the win, doing so on a kill by Cherry Li (Shanghai, China). Lock
Haven tallied a 19-11 advantage in the second game before
a short spurt by Clarion that brought the score closer,
22-18. The
Lady Eagles answered with another five unanswered points
then cruised through the remainder to take the win in game
two, 30-21. The
Golden Eagles had built a four-point lead early into game
three, but a see-saw battle ensued. The back-and-forth
skirmish came to an end when The Haven pushed out to a
22-17 lead on five straight points, then held on for the
30-26 win ending on kills by Allison Furry (Guys Mills/Maplewood) and Allison Wade (Duncansville/Hollidaysburg).
Cherry
Li and Allison Wade led the offensive effort, Li
registering 12 kills while Wade totaled 11 kills.
At the net, Lillian
Bortoto (Sao
Paulo,
Brazil/Campos
Salles)
did her part to turn back the Clarion attack, blocking 10
balls, including five solo stuffs.
A balanced defensive effort off the net was paced
by eight digs from Michelle
Deehan (Upper Marlboro, Md./Gwynn
Park),
who also added nine kills to the win.
Allison Furry pocketed 40 assists along with four
digs and three blocks.
