(Lock Haven, Pa.) - The Lady Eagle volleyball team came up with the 3-0 win over Slippery Rock University (17-13, 0-8 PSAC West) this evening in Thomas Fieldhouse, scraping by with two close wins, 33-31 and 30-28, before taking the third, 30-23.  Lock Haven improves to 25-4 overall and 7-1 in the PSAC Western Division.
Neither team had more than a three-point lead in the first two games.  After playing to the 30-30 tie in game one, Slippery Rock came up with a kill to move into a 31-30 lead.  Amanda Snyder (
Portsmouth , Va. /Churchland) scored a kill on the next rally to bring the score back to an even 31-31.  A ball-handling error on SRU gave Lock Haven game-point, which Cherry Li ( Shanghai , China ) took full advantage of with a kill for the 33-31 victory.
Slippery Rock held a 25-22 lead in the second game, but the Lady Eagles bounced back after a timeout to tie the game then take over a slim 28-27 lead.  An SRU kill evened the game up to 28-28, but a kill by Michelle Deehan (Upper Marlboro,
Md. / Gwynn Park ) and a Rock attack error later, The Haven had grabbed the 30-28 win to go up by two games.
Lock Haven came out strong in the third game, scoring five straight points then building a lead that grew to 13-3 before Slippery Rock began to chip away.  SRU had dwindled the 10-point deficit to just four at 26-22.  Kelly Bebee ( Smithtown , N.Y./Smithtown) put down a kill to inch closer to the match win, 27-22.  A Slippery Rock attack error upped the score to 28-22 before the visitors collected a kill on the next play to bring the score to 28-23.  The Haven gave SRU no more chances, however, and posted the final two points to complete the three-game sweep.  LHU closed things out with a tipped ball by Cherry Li that landed untouched and a kill by Michelle Deehan.
Allison Wade (Duncansville/Hollidaysburg) led the Lady Eagles with 13 kills, 10 digs and three service aces.  Cherry Li had 10 kills and a team-best 19 digs, while Amanda Snyder also added 10 kills along with 15 digs.  Michelle Deehan closed out the match with nine digs and six kills in two games played.  Sophomore setter Allison Furry (Guys Mills/Maplewood) was also among the statistical leaders, distributing the ball for 45 assists.

Up Next:  Lock Haven will travel to Indiana ( Pa. ) University next Tuesday, Nov. 4, for a 7 p.m. conference match-up.
