Volleyball In PSAC Championship Match After 3-1 Semifinal
Win Over Kutztown
(Kutztown, Pa.) -
The Lock Haven University volleyball team (28-5) has
earned the chance to play for its fourth Pennsylvania
State Athletic Conference (PSAC) title, advancing to the
conference championship match with this evening’s 3-1
(30-19, 31-33, 30-17, 30-16) victory over Kutztown
University (21-9) in the tournament semifinals.
The Lady Eagles posted three players with kills in
double figures and tallied 10 total blocks en route to the
four-game win.
Lock Haven took the first game, 30-19, to take the
early lead. Off-target
attacks and reception errors plagued game two, as the Lady
Eagles hit at just a .125 clip and fell by a slim 33-31
margin. The
Haven rolled out two quicker games in the third and fourth
sets, coming back strong in the third to register 20 kills
in a 30-17 win before taking the 30-16 victory along with
the match in the fourth.
Junior outside hitter Kristi
Kauffman (York/Central York) powered the
offense, generating 21 kills and 19 digs.
Freshman middle Cherry
Li (Shanghai, China) had 14 kills,
19 digs and four blocks, while junior middle Lillian
Bortoto (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Campos
Salles) posted
13 kills and five blocks.
Michelle
Deehan (Upper Marlboro,
Md./Gwynn
Park) totaled 18
digs along with seven kills, while libero Kelly
Wengerter (Emerson, N.J./Emerson) had 14 digs.
Sophomore setter Kelly
Kostelich (Venetia/Peters Township) registered 34
assists along with 12 digs and six service aces.
Lock
Haven will face Edinboro
University
(25-10), the Western Division top seed, in the PSAC
Tournament finals after the Fighting Scots rolled to a 3-0
(30-24, 30-26, 30-16) semifinal win over West Chester
University
earlier this evening.
The championship match is slated for a
5 p.m.
start on Sat., Nov. 15, in Kutztown’s Keystone Hall.
