CLARION, Pa.
Lock Haven
University volleyball (7-1, 1-0 PSAC) made short work of
their first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)
opponent, downing Clarion University (6-3, 0-1 PSAC) in
straight sets, 30-28, 30-14, 30-24.
Defense was the name of
the game for the Lady Eagles, as they recorded 15 team
blocks, led by sophomore Li Yizhi (Shanghai,
China) with two solo blocks and five block assists. LHU
particularly shut down the Golden Eagles in the second
game, allowing just 14 points.
We played strong at
the net, and really put forth some tenacious defense,
head coach Tom Justice said. In the second game,
we smothered them, and that was the difference.
Strong defense made for
excellent offense, as Li and freshman Inga Kurgonaite
(Kaunas, Lithuania/Yuozas Urbsys) recorded 11 kills
each, with Li and junior Michelle Deehan (Upper
Marlboro, Md./Gwynn Park) hitting at a .333 clip.
Li, Justice, Corbin,
Deehan and the rest of the Lady Eagles are back in
action against Slippery Rock University on Saturday,
Sept. 18 at 7 p.m.
