CALIFORNIA, Pa. –
The Lock Haven University volleyball team (15-3,
3-2 PSAC West) shot themselves
in the foot, falling to the California University (Pa.) Vulcans in straight
sets, 30-26, 30-25, 30-19. LHU had a total of 33 errors in the match.
The Lady Eagles
had a school-record 22 blocking errors
combined with 11 service mistakes.
"We gave up 33 points to the other team in
errors," head coach Tom Justice said. "Obviously we're disappointed."
LHU continued
to get an offensive spark
from
sophomore Li Yizhi (Shanghai, China) as she led the squad with 13
kills on 21 attacks for an outstanding .545 hitting percentage.
Freshman Inga Kurgonaite (Kaunas,
Lithuania/Yuozas Urbsys) was
second with seven kills.
With the victory, California
moves past LHU into sole possession of first place in the Pennsylvania State
Athletic Conference West Division.
Li, Kurgonaite
and the rest of the Lady Eagles are back in action
Friday-Saturday, Oct. 8-9 at
the Shippensburg University Crossover.
