SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Lock Haven University volleyball team (18-3, 3-2 PSAC West) swept the final day of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Crossover Tournament, besting Kutztown University (14-5, 3-1 PSAC East) in four sets and host Shippensburg University (12-12, 3-2 PSAC East) in three. The Lady Eagles finished 3-0 in the two-day tournament.

“We were tested today, with losing a set and going overtime on another,” head coach Tom Justice said. “It has been good for us. These teams are fighting us hard, and it helps us see how well we can respond.”

Lock Haven bettered Kutztown 30-23, 28-30, 30-20, 30-17. Sophomore Li Yizhi (Shanghai, China) recorded a double-double with 21 kills and 15 digs. Add in two service aces and five blocks and Li showed how versatile she can be.

Kelly Kostelich (Venetia/Peters Township) and Allison Furry (Guys Mills/Maplewood) split time running the offense, with Kostelich notching 36 assists and Furry adding 24.

The Lady Eagles swept Shippensburg 30-17, 30-26, 33-31. Pacing the team in kills were Li and Inga Kurgonaite (Kaunas, Lithuania/Yuozas Urbsys) with 14 apiece.

Defense came up big once again for LHU, as four players had more than 10 digs, led by Michelle Deehan (Upper Marlboro, Md./Gwynn Park) who saved 16.

Justice, Li, Kostelich, Furry, Kurgonaite, Deehan, Bartoto and the rest of the Lady Eagles are back in action against Clarion University on Tuesday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. in the Thomas Field House.
