SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –
The Lock
Haven University volleyball team
(20-3, 5-2 PSAC West) rebounded from a sluggish start to topple Slippery
Rock University (15-13, 1-6 PSAC West), 3-0 tonight. Junior Allison Wade
(Duncansville, Pa./Holidaysburg Area) led the team in kills for the first
time this season, posting 12.
The Haven nearly
dropped the first set, slipping through with a 30-27 margin, but finished
strong at 30-17 and 30-19.
Supporting Wade’s 12
kills were Li Yizhi (Shanghai,
China) and Lilian Bortoto (Sau
Paulo, Brazil/Campos Salles) at 11 apiece. Bortoto’s 11 kills came with no
errors for a .579 hitting percentage.
“We started off
sluggish, as though we were tired,” head coach Tom Justice said. “We
got off to a bad start with too many unforced errors. These three (Wade, Li
and Bortoto) made a huge difference tonight to help us begin to play with
confidence.”
Li had her typically
balanced game, adding three service aces, four blocks and a team-high 24
digs, good for second in school history. Junior Kelly Kostelich
(Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) ran the offense with 29 assists.
Wade, Li, Bortoto,
Justice, Kostelich and the rest of the Lady Eagles are back in action
Tuesday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. at Edinboro University.
