LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Lock Haven
University volleyball team (25-3) surged past Shippensburg University
(21-15) tonight, sweeping the Red Raiders 3-0. The Lady Eagles acquired a
.250 hitting percentage, defeating Shippensburg 30-16, 32-30, 30-21. The
win propels LHU to the NCAA Regionals.
Sophomore Li Yizhi (Shanghai, China) led
the team with 13 kills, hitting .550. Along with her record-breaking game
last night, Li was named Most Outstanding Player of the tournament. Also
hitting double digits in kills was freshman Inga Kurgonaite (Kaunas,
Lithuania/Yuozas Urbsys) with 11 on a .375 hitting.
Leading the offense was junior Kelly
Kostelich (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) with 24 assists and four digs.
Junior Allison Furry (Guys Mills, Pa./Maplewood) chipped in with 10
assists on the evening, while Junior Allison Wade (Duncansville,
Pa./Hollidaysburg Area) lended a hand with 12 digs and three block assists.
The Haven outplayed the Red Raiders, holding
them to a -.027 hitting percentage in the first set with a .047 percentage
overall. Leading Shippensburg in kills was Alyssa Kilgore with 10.
The Lady Eagles will return to the court on
Nov. 18 through 20 or Nov. 19 through 21 on a campus to be determined for
the NCAA Regionals Championship.
