Volleyball
Downed in Straight Sets at NCAA Quarterfinal

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The
Lock Haven University volleyball team (28-4) failed to halt the now 30-game
winning streak of the host No. 3 Barry University Buccaneers (32-1) tonight,
as LHU fell in straight sets, 30-14, 30-21, 30-28.
The Lady Eagles got
another solid performance from All-American Li Yizhi (Shanghai,
China) as she paced the team with
a game-high 16 kills on .387 hitting.
Coming slow out of the
gate, Lock Haven hit just .040 in the first game, compared to the Buccaneers
.444 clip. LHU’s defense would gradually kick in as the match went on,
allowing just .188 hitting in the third set, but it would prove to be too
late.
Juniors Allison
Furry (Guys Mills, Pa./Maplewood) and Kelly Kostelich (Venetia,
Pa./Peters Township) once again
split the setting duties, recording 17 and 11 assists, respectively. Senior
Kristi Kauffman (York,
Pa./Central York) posted a
team-best 10 digs.
The Haven’s fifth jaunt
into the Elite Eight round of the NCAA Tournament proved fruitless, ending a
remarkable 2004 season at 28-4 with Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference
and NCAA Atlantic Regional championships.
