DENVER
– In day two of the 2005 Colorado Premier
Challenge, the Lock Haven University volleyball squad was paired up with the
defending Division II National Champions and the team that ended their 2004
season. Head coach Tom Justice and the No. 24 Lady Eagles got a
little pay back against Barry University, as they defeated the No. 3
Buccaneers (30-19, 30-22, 27-30, 29-31, 15-13).
Junior Li YiZhi
(Shanghai, China) put together her best
performance of an already dominant 2005 campaign, collecting a season-high
31 digs and hitting .500 from the floor with a game-high 20 kills. She also
added five block assists in the winning effort.
Inga Kurgonaite (Kaunas, Lithuania/Yuozas
Urbsys) added 19 kills and four total blocks
against the Bucs. Senior Allison Wade
(Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg Area) put
together her best effort of the season with 13 kills and 14 digs with three
total blocks. Maggie Borden (Hanover, Pa./Delone
Catholic) had seven kills with no errors in the
five set match. Freshman Stacey Borgia
(Factoryville, Pa./Lackawanna Trail) had a team
high five block solos.
The win gives the Lady Eagles three wins
against top 25 teams in this early season. Thus far, LHU has played six of
its seven games against ranked opponents, posting a 3-3 record. After the
thrilling victory over Barry, the Lady Eagles were slated to face off
against No. 9 University of Tampa.
