Lady Eagles Exact Revenge on Defending Champs

DENVER – In day two of the 2005 Colorado Premier Challenge, the Lock Haven University volleyball squad was paired up with the defending Division II National Champions and the team that ended their 2004 season.  Head coach Tom Justice and the No. 24 Lady Eagles got a little pay back against Barry University, as they defeated the No. 3 Buccaneers (30-19, 30-22, 27-30, 29-31, 15-13).

Junior Li YiZhi (Shanghai, China) put together her best performance of an already dominant 2005 campaign, collecting a season-high 31 digs and hitting .500 from the floor with a game-high 20 kills.  She also added five block assists in the winning effort.

Inga Kurgonaite (Kaunas, Lithuania/Yuozas Urbsys)  added 19 kills and four total blocks against the Bucs.  Senior Allison Wade (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg Area) put together her best effort of the season with 13 kills and 14 digs with three total blocks.  Maggie Borden (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) had seven kills with no errors in the five set match.  Freshman Stacey Borgia (Factoryville, Pa./Lackawanna Trail) had a team high five block solos.

The win gives the Lady Eagles three wins against top 25 teams in this early season.  Thus far, LHU has played six of its seven games against ranked opponents, posting a 3-3 record.  After the thrilling victory over Barry, the Lady Eagles were slated to face off against No. 9 University of Tampa.
