Li YiZhi
(Shanghai, China) continued
to garner impressive accolades after being named Most Valuable Player of the
2005 Colorado Premier Challenge. The prestigious invitational
concluded on Saturday night with the Lady Eagles dropping their final
contest to No. 9 University of Tampa.
The Spartans (4-4) toppled LHU (4-4) three
games to one (20-30, 29-31, 30-20, 20-30). Li once again led the way
for the Lady Eagles, posting team-highs in digs (16), kills (15), hitting
percentage (.229) and block assists (5).
Inga Kurgonaite (Kaunas, Lithuania/Yuozas
Urbsys) added 10 kills and
five total blocks, as senior
Allison Wade
(Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg Area)
had double digits digs with 10.
Maggie Borden (Hanover, Pa./Delone
Catholic) had eight kills
and freshman
Stacey Borgia
(Factoryville, Pa./Lackawanna Trail)
chipped in with 5 kills in the losing effort.
Overall for the
tournament, MVP Li had 58 kills, 71 digs and 12 block assists. Last
week Li was named to the all-tournament team at the Ferris State Holiday Inn
Classic.
As a team, head coach
Tom Justice and the Lady Eagles sit at
.500 after facing seven ranked teams out of eight contests, including
three in the Top 10. Wins of note for the Haven came Saturday against
defending national champion and No. 3 Barry University as well as victories
of No. 16 Northwood University to start the season and No. 21 Augustana
University (SD).
Li, Kurgonaite, Wade,
Borden, Borgia and the rest of the Lady Eagles open up defense of their
conference title as they host IUP inside Thomas Fieldhouse on Tuesday, Sept.
13 at 7 p.m.
