LOCK HAVEN, Pa.—Up
three at the half, the Lock
Haven University
women’s basketball team (0-11) fell victim to a remarkable
second-half shooting performance by Southern Connecticut
State University’s Kim Jackle in a 67-53 loss tonight at
the Thomas Fieldhouse.
The Lady Eagles put
together a powerful defensive performance in the first
half, holding Jackle, a 17.6 points-per-game scorer, to
just four on 1-of-9 from the floor. LHU guard
Elizabeth
Gabrielle (State
College, Pa./State College)
put up 10 points in the first half, leading the Lady
Eagles to a 29-26 advantage.
Whatever Jackle did at
halftime may become a superstitious ritual, as she came
out of the locker room blazing, hitting three-pointers on
the first two Owl trips down the floor, scoring 16 points
in the first seven minutes of the second stanza and 23 in
the entire second half to finish with 27 points.
Gabrielle would finish
with 19 points, the second-highest total for a Lady Eagle
this season. The sophomore guard went 3-of-6 from long
distance. Senior forward
Melissa
Picarsic (Acme,
Pa./Mt. Pleasant)
chipped in with 13
points after spending all but two minutes in the game.
The Lady Eagles got
another solid start, holding the lead for the entire first
half. The LHU lead reached its peak of six on two
occasions, the first with 4:48 left in the first stanza on
a Candace
Sillers (Lebanon,
Pa./Lebanon)
three-point shot.
Gabrielle, Picarsic,
Sillers and the rest of the Lady Eagles are back in action
Saturday, Jan. 8 at 1 p.m. as they play host to East
Stroudsburg
University. |
