LOCK
HAVEN, Pa. – Up six at the half,
the Lock Haven University women’s basketball team (0-12)
fell victim to a 17-7 run to begin the second-half by East
Stroudsburg University (5-6). Although the Lady Eagles
fought back to regain the lead, they fell in the final
minutes 71-73 this afternoon in the Thomas Fieldhouse.
Down five
with two minutes left the Lady Eagles tied it up at 71 on
a jumper by sophomore
Shameka L. Lee
(Washington/HD Woodson) with 30 seconds remaining.
ESU’s leading scorer Maryellen Onofre was able to draw a
questionable call getting her to the free throw line with
six seconds to play. Onofre hit both free throws to give
her team the victory.
The Lady
Eagles out shot the ESU women’s team in the first half 48
to 33 percent, but the tides were turned in the second
half when ESU shot 58 percent to the Lady Eagles 36
percent.
Although
LHU out-rebounded ESU 47-21, led by
Allison Hall (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg)
with nine, they could not stop the ESU top-two scorers who
were 9-10 from three point range.
The Lady
Eagles played a team game with four players in double
figures. Sophomore guard
Elizabeth
Gabrielle (State College, Pa./State College) led
LHU with 17 points while playing the entire 40 minutes.
She was
helped by Hall who contributed 16 points and sophomore

Williams (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake)
threw in 14 points to celebrate her 20th
birthday. Rounding out the double-digit scorers was Lee
who had 11 points.
Hall,
Gabrielle, Williams, Lee, and the rest of the Lady Eagles
are back in action Sunday, Jan. 9 at 1 p.m. when they host
