CLARION, Pa.
– Down by just two at the half to one of the
conference’s top teams, the Lock Haven University
women’s basketball team (2-14, 1-1 PSAC West) was poised
for an upset. The Clarion University Golden Eagles
(14-3, 2-0 PSAC West) dashed those hopes with a 24-6 run
in the first seven minutes out of halftime, eventually
toppling the Lady Eagles 86-55 tonight.
Sophomore forward
Shameka L. Lee
(Washington/HD Woodson) posted a career-high 15
points in the loss, sharing team-high duties with
classmate
Allison Hall (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg).
Hall snagged eight rebounds, bested in the game by
teammate
Ginger
Williams (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) who
narrowly-missed the second double-double of her career
with 10 points and nine rebounds.
The Lady Eagles kept
pace with Clarion in the first half with hot shooting at
41.2 percent (14-of-34), bringing the halftime ledger to
32-30. The Golden Eagles caught fire in the second
stanza, topping the Lady Eagles in field-goal percentage
56 percent (22-of-39) to 31 percent (8-of-26).
Lee, Hall, Williams and
the rest of the Lady Eagles will be back in action
Saturday, Jan. 22, at 1 p.m. at Slippery Rock
University. |
