Second-Half Surge Downs Women's Basketball, 86-55

CLARION, Pa. – Down by just two at the half to one of the conference’s top teams, the Lock Haven University women’s basketball team (2-14, 1-1 PSAC West) was poised for an upset. The Clarion University Golden Eagles (14-3, 2-0 PSAC West) dashed those hopes with a 24-6 run in the first seven minutes out of halftime, eventually toppling the Lady Eagles 86-55 tonight.

Sophomore forward Shameka L. Lee (Washington/HD Woodson) posted a career-high 15 points in the loss, sharing team-high duties with classmate Allison Hall (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg). Hall snagged eight rebounds, bested in the game by teammate Ginger Williams (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) who narrowly-missed the second double-double of her career with 10 points and nine rebounds.

The Lady Eagles kept pace with Clarion in the first half with hot shooting at 41.2 percent (14-of-34), bringing the halftime ledger to 32-30. The Golden Eagles caught fire in the second stanza, topping the Lady Eagles in field-goal percentage 56 percent (22-of-39) to 31 percent (8-of-26).

Lee, Hall, Williams and the rest of the Lady Eagles will be back in action Saturday, Jan. 22, at 1 p.m. at Slippery Rock University.
