Late Rally Not Enough for Women's Hoops, 59-47

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.—The Lock Haven University women’s basketball team (2-15, 1-2 PSAC West) put the clamps down defensively in the second half, but couldn’t overcome a 19-point halftime deficit and lost to Slippery Rock University (7-11, 1-2 PSAC West) today, 59-47.

Despite being held to under 50 points for the first time in exactly a month, a Dec. 22 47-46 loss at Kutztown University, the Lady Eagles managed three scorers in double figures. Sophomore Ginger Williams (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) paced the team with 12 points and eight rebounds, followed by Elizabeth Gabrielle (State College, Pa./State College) at 11 points and five assists and Allison Hall (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) with 10 points.

LHU couldn’t get on track early as it fell behind 22-4 in the first 7:30 of the contest. The Lady Eagles trailed 41-22 at the half.

In the second frame, Lock Haven held the Rock to just 26 percent shooting (6-of-23), as the Lady Eagles took the second half 25-18.

The Haven reached its closest point, down 10 at 57-47 with 3:32 left on a jumper by Gabrielle, but both teams would go scoreless for the next 3:22, and LHU would remain scoreless for the rest of the game.

Williams, Gabrielle, Hall and the rest of the Lady Eagles are back in action Wednesday, Jan. 26 at 6 p.m. as they play host to Shippensburg University.
