LOCK HAVEN, Pa.—
Despite a second-half surge the Lock Haven University
women’s basketball team (2-16, 1-3 PSAC West) fell tonight
to Shippensburg University (11-6, 2-1 PSAC West), 42-52.
The Lady Eagles were down
19 with 8:11 remaining in the second half when they went
on a 15-3 run to cut the Shippensburg lead to seven.
Junior forward
Kristy
Shadduck (Dimmock,
Pa./Elk Lake)
scored 12 of the 15 points in the run and led the team
down the stretch.
Despite only playing seven
minutes in the first half and grabbing one rebound,
Shadduck came out in the second half to lead the team in
all categories except assists. She was 8-of-15 from the
floor, posted a season-high 16 points, grabbed eight
rebounds, and had five steals.
Lock Haven played a strong
team defense, forcing Shippensburg to turn the ball over
29 times. The Lady Eagles were not able to take advantage
of those turnovers, only shooting 29 percent from the
field.
Shippensburg was able to
stop most second-chance points by out-rebounding the Lady
Eagles 33-11 on the Lock Haven end of the floor, while
holding a 50-26 advantage for the game.
This game marked the
lowest points scored by a Lady Eagle team since Dec. 29,
2002 against St. Anslem College when they lost 55-37.
Shadduck and the rest of
the Lady Eagles are back in action Saturday, Jan. 29 at 1
p.m. as they travel to Edinboro University. |
