Women's Basketball Dominates Columbia Union, 83-68

LOCK HAVEN, Pa.— Paced by a career- and LHU-season high 22 points from junior Kristy Shadduck (Dimmock, Pa./Elk Lake) the Lock Haven University women’s basketball team controlled Columbia Union College 83-68 tonight at Thomas Fieldhouse. The 83 points are the most by the Lady Eagles since a 99-43 win over Albany College of Pharmacy Dec. 27, 2003.

Shadduck led four LHU scorers in double figures, followed by freshman Missy Blazina (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) at a career-high 16, sophomore Candace Sillers (Lebanon, Pa./Lebanon) with 16 and sophomore Ginger Williams (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) at 10. Shadduck narrowly missed the second double-double of her career by pulling down nine rebounds tonight.

Sophomore guard Elizabeth Gabrielle (State College, Pa./State College) captained the offense with a team season-high 12 assists, as each one of the eight Lady Eagles reached the scoring column for the first time this season.

The game began with a quick 9-0 run for LHU, capped by Williams’s layup with 17:08 left in the first half. The Lady Pioneers took over the advantage for the only time at the 12:49 mark, but LHU would answer with a 14-0 run over the next four minutes. The Lady Eagles would hold the lead for the remainder of the contest.

The Lady Eagles lost the turnover battle 31-22, but combated that with a 42-24 edge in the rebounding department. Led by Shadduck and Blazina, the Haven bench outscored the CUC reserves 42-8.

Shadduck, Blazina, Sillers, Williams, Gabrielle and the rest of the Lady Eagles are back in action Saturday, Feb. 5 at 3 p.m. as they host No. 11 California University (Pa.) at Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day and PSECU Night.
