LOCK HAVEN, Pa. –
Getting 23 trips to
the free-throw line, a great defensive effort and a
plus-two turnover margin helped keep the Lock Haven
University women’s basketball team (3-18, 1-5 PSAC West)
within striking distance of defending National Champion
#11 California University (17-4, 5-1 PSAC West) in the
Lady Eagles’ 68-57 loss today at Thomas Fieldhouse.
Sophomore forward
Shameka L. Lee’s
(Washington/HD Woodson) career-high 16 led the
way for the Haven.
Lee did the majority of
her damage from the field, going 7-of-12 from the floor,
adding four rebounds and a team-best three steals.
The Lady Eagles got a
balanced scoring attack, as for the second-straight game
all eight of the Lady Eagles reached the scoring column.
The LHU bench outscored the Vulcans 15-5, led by five
points from junior
Kristy
Shadduck (Dimmock, Pa./Elk Lake).
The Haven’s 3-2 zone put
the clamps on the Vulcan’s leading scorer, Sara
McKinney, in the first half, allowing her just two
points on 1-of-3 shooting. McKinney would find the soft
spots in the Lady Eagle defense in the second half,
hitting jumpshot after jumpshot to finish with 26
points.
Lee, Shadduck and the
rest of the Lady Eagles are back in action Saturday,
Feb. 7 at 5:30 p.m. when they travel to IUP. |
