INDIANA,
Pa.—
In a back-and-forth affair featuring eight lead changes,
the Lock Haven University women’s basketball team (4-18,
2-5 PSAC West) completed a series sweep of IUP (9-13, 2-5
PSAC West) with a 62-56 win tonight. The Lady Eagles put
on the defensive clamps, allowing a season-low 26 percent
(16-of-62) field-goal shooting for IUP.
For the third game in a
row, each one of the eight Lady Eagles reached the scoring
column, led by sophomore
Allison Hall
(Hollidaysburg,
Pa./Hollidaysburg)
with 16 points to go with
nine rebounds. Joining Hall were sophomore
Candace
Sillers (Lebanon,
Pa./Lebanon)
and freshman
Missy Blazina
(Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) with 10 points
apiece.
The Lady Eagles made the
most of their second chances, getting 10 rebounds each
from sophomore forwards
Shameka L. Lee
(Washington/HD Woodson) and
Ginger
Williams (Pasadena,
Md./Chesapeake).
LHU controlled the area near the basket, out-scoring the
Indians 24-8 in points in the paint.
The final minute was a
flurry of free throws on both sides, five for the Lady
Eagles and three for the Indians. Hall sealed the game by
pulling down an errant Indian shot and capping the game
with two points from the charity stripe with 12 seconds
left, earning the first conference series sweep for the
Lady Eagles in over five years.
Hall, Sillers, Blazina,
Lee, Williams and the rest of the Lady Eagles are back in
action Wednesday, Feb. 9 at 6 p.m. as they host Clarion
University. |
