SHIPPENSBURG, Pa.—
The Lock Haven University women’s basketball team (4-21,
2-8 PSAC West) had a halftime lead slip away, eventually
falling to Shippensburg University (15-8, 6-3 PSAC West),
67-50 tonight. Sophomore forward
Ginger
Williams (Pasadena,
Md./Chesapeake)
posted her team-best second double-double of the season
with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Joining Williams with a
team-high 13 points was sophomore guard
Candace
Sillers (Lebanon,
Pa./Lebanon).
Defense was the key to the
Lady Eagles’ success in the early going, as they held the
Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference’s (PSAC) leading
scorer, Jennifer Scaffidi, scoreless in the first half.
The Lady Raiders as a team shot just 10-of-34 (29 percent)
from the floor in the first stanza, giving the Lady Eagles
a 28-25 halftime advantage.
Fatigue set in for LHU in
the second half, as their shooting percentage dropped by
nearly seven points (34.3-27.6), Scaffidi caught fire to
hit for 12 points and the Lady Eagles were out-scored
42-22.
Junior center
Kristy
Shadduck (Dimmock,
Pa./Elk Lake)
added a balanced day of six points, seven rebounds, three
blocks and three steals in her fifth start of the season.
Williams, Sillers,
Shadduck and the rest of the Lady Eagles are back in
action Saturday, Feb. 19 at 1 p.m. as host Edinboro
University for Senior Day and Take a Kid to the Game Day. |
