KUTZTOWN, Pa.
– The Lock
Haven University women’s
basketball team (0-8) slipped by the slimmest of margins
to Kutztown University (6-4) tonight, 47-46. In a
defensive battle, both teams were held under 35 percent
shooting from the floor.
Freshman
Kristine
Terhune (Washington,
N.J../Warren Hills)
put together the best game
of her young career, hitting for 11 points on 4-of-8
shooting. The Lady Eagles had a balanced effort, as all
but one of their nine players reached the scoring column.
The Lady Eagles had a
spark from the very start, going on an 11-2 run for the
first nine minutes. Sophomore guards
Elizabeth
Gabrielle (State
College, Pa./State College)
and
Allison Hall
(Hollidaysburg,
Pa./Hollidaysburg)
contributed four points
apiece to the early run. Gabrielle would display her
multi-faceted skills, finishing with seven points, seven
rebounds, six steals and four assists.
LHU would
continue to control the lead until the
16:22 mark
of the second half. The Golden Bears would briefly grab
the lead for the first time at that point, quickly giving
it back to the Lady Eagles on the next possession.
The Haven
would twice more stretch the lead to eight, on a jumper
and a pair of free throws, both by Terhune. In the final
minute, the lead would change hands three times, the final
being the one-point Golden Bear advantage on a free throw
with 13 seconds left.
Terhune had
a chance to tie the game at the charity stripe with one
tick on the clock, but would miss both free throws.
Terhune,
Gabrielle, Hall and the rest of the Lady Eagles are back
in action Wednesday, Dec. 29 at
6 p.m.
against American International College at the Comfort Inn
and Suites Holiday Tournament in
Smithfield,
