A total of 19 points on a season-high five three pointers by Anita Charles (Lancaster/Lancaster Catholic) was not enough to carry LHU to a victory.  Cyndi Crowl (Stroudsburg/Stroudsburg) added 11 points, followed by eight points and four rebounds from Amy Daniels (Elizabethville/Upper Dauphin).

2/23/03  -  Clarion 69, Lock Haven 55            >>>box score
(Clarion, Pa.) - Despite a double-double and season-high performance from Amy Daniels (Elizabethville/Upper Dauphin), the Lady Eagle basketball team (7-17, 1-10 PSAC West) could not get past Clarion University (15-10, 5-5 PSAC West), falling 69-55 on the road this afternoon.  Lock Haven gave up a six-point halftime lead and was outscored by the Golden Eagles, 41-21, in the second half leading up to the final outcome.  Daniels scored a game-high 22 points along with a team-best 11 boards for her third double-double of the season despite the loss.
A total of 13 of Daniels' points came in the opening stanza, as LHU shot 37.9 percent and was key on free throws with 10-of-12 made attempts for the 34-28 lead.  The Lady Eagles' troubles started in the second half, as they were hard pressed to get shots to fall while Clarion forged ahead shooting 60-percent for 41 points in the second half.
In addition to Daniels' performance, Beth Ann Szekeres (Enhault Steelton/Central Dauphin East) added nine points and five rebounds.

Cyndi Crowl (Stroudsburg/Stroudsburg) was the LHU scoring leader with 10 points, and Holly Young (Bellwood/Bellwood-Antis) chipped in with nine points.  Amy Daniels (Elizabethville/Upper Dauphin) added eight points and five boards.

Lock Haven dug itself into a 27-19 hole by the intermission, with Indiana putting up the bulk of its points from the free throw line (13-of-16).  The Haven would battle back and bring the game to within one point with 6:00 remaining, but a scoring spurt by IUP's Sarah Zdesar stretched out the lead once more before the final 60-51 tally.
Cyndi Crowl (Stroudsburg/Stroudsburg) led LHU with 14 points and Melissa Picarsic (Acme/Mt. Pleasant) added 11 points. Kristy Shadduck (Meshoppin/Elk Lake) pulled down the majority of rebounds for the Lady Eagles, owning a share of the game-high with 12 boards.

Three Lady Eagles scored in double digits but could not gain the offensive advantage against a sharp-shooting Fighting Scot unit that hit nine three-pointers over the span of the game.
In the first half, neither team could pull away, with Edinboro posting the largest lead of the half at six points. Lock Haven would battle back from that deficit, regaining the lead with a jumper by Amy Daniels (Elizabethville/Upper Dauphin) to go ahead, 37-36, going into halftime.
The Lady Eagles came out strong in the second half, jumping to a 43-38 lead early. The Scots fought back, however, and went on a 9-0 run retake the lead. Edinboro would build a lead as high as nine points before Lock Haven cut it down to three with only 4:42 to go. That would be as close as the Lady Eagles would get, however, before the final 71-62 loss.

The Lady Eagles almost erased that lead, scoring seven unanswered points in the next minute to pull back to within one tally.  Clarion made three of four free throws in the closing seconds, however, stealing the win away from The Haven.
