LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Junior
wrestler
Carlos Ponce (Hialeah, Fla./Hialeah Miami Lakes)
and the Lock Haven University wrestling team received
academic honors today (May 12), from the
National Wrestling
Coaches Association (NWCA).Ponce landed on
the All-Academic First Team with a 3.234 GPA while majoring in Physical
Education. He finished third at the Eastern Wrestling League (EWL)
Championships in March, earning him a trip to compete in the NCAA
Championships in St. Louis later that month.
As a team, the Bald Eagles landed on the NWCA All-Academic
Top 30 Teams list, placing 16th. The collective team GPA was 3.0206. West
Virginia was the only EWL team to place higher on the list than Lock Haven.
Each year the NWCA
honors its Academic Top Thirty Division I wrestling teams, as well as an
individual All-Academic Team.
