Wrestling Splits First Day of Virginia Duals

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—The Lock Haven University wrestling team (3-1) rebounded from its first dual loss of the season at the hands of Indiana University (6-0), getting a 41-9 victory over American University (0-8) today to stay alive in the consolation bracket at the Virginia Duals.

Junior 149-pounder Joshua A. Medina (Las Vegas/Pima C.C.) powered the Bald Eagles today, being the only LHU wrestler to win in both meets. He took a 15-5 major decision of Indiana’s Prescott Slee in the 32-4 loss to the Hoosiers. Medina followed that up with a 12-5 victory over American’s Tom Kniezewski, the third win Medina has over Kniezewski this season.

Other highlights for the Bald Eagles during the American meet were falls recorded by sophomore Seth Martin (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove) at 157 pounds and junior heavyweight Tim Meyers (Mill Hall, Pa./Central Mountain). Martin got the best of Christopher Stout, while Meyers topped Adam Montgomery for the first pin of the LHU matman’s career.

Medina, Martin, Meyers and the rest of the Bald Eagles continue day two of the Virginia Duals tomorrow at 10 a.m. as they square off with Cal State-Bakersfield.
