Wrestling Drops First Conference Match, 33-13

EDINBORO, Pa.—The
Lock Haven University wrestling team (3-5, 0-1 EWL) dropped their first
Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) contest of the season at Edinboro University
(8-3, 2-0 EWL) tonight 33-13. Obe
Blanc (Naples, Fla./Lely),
Joshua A. Medina (Las
Vegas/Pima C.C.) and Morgan
Horner (Hasbrouck Heights,
N.J./Hasbrouck Heights) all
scored wins for the Bald Eagles.
The night couldn’t have
started better for the Haven, as Blanc, fresh off a Pennsylvania State
Athletic Conference (PSAC) title, scored a fall in 5:27 over Greg Sill at
125, giving LHU a quick 6-0 lead. The pin was the first of his career and
improves Blanc to 22-9.
After a pair of losses
by decision, LHU’s other PSAC champion Medina got an 8-6 win over Edinboro’s
149-pounder Zach Plerhoples, edging the Bald Eagles back in front 9-7. The
Fighting Scots would then rattle off four wins in a row, including a tech
fall, a fall and a win by forfeit, posting an insurmountable 27-9 lead.
Junior 197-pounder
Horner would do his best to get some points back, as he would score a 15-1
major decision on Mike LaBella, Horner’s first dual victory in nearly a
year, bringing the score to 27-13. A loss by fall at heavyweight completed
the 33-13 ledger.
The Fighting Scots
featured two ranked grapplers, and neither one disappointed this evening,
scoring a major decision and a tech fall.
Blanc, Medina, Horner
and the rest of the Bald Eagles are back in action tomorrow, Feb. 6 at 7:30
p.m. at
Cleveland State University.
