STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The Lock Haven University Wrestling team (4-6, 1-1 EWL) scored three wins over grapplers from No. 14 Penn State University (9-8, 2-3 Big Ten) in front of 1,506 on Senior Day at Rec Hall. Rory McCoy (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville), Seth Martin (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove) and Jim Collins (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) each had wins for the Bald Eagles.

The evening started at 125, as freshman Obe Blanc (Naples, Fla./Lely) met No. 16 Adam Smith. Smith would snap Blanc’s seven-match winning streak with a 10-1 major decision.

At 133, Collins earned his eighth win of the season with a forfeit, giving the Bald Eagles their lone team lead of the night at 6-4.

#20 DeWitt Driscoll scored the second of four major decisions for the Nittany Lions on the evening, a 16-2 mark over freshman Brian Ellis (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty). At 149, Jack Decker scored a forfeit win for PSU, bringing the tally to 14-6.

In perhaps the most tightly-contested bout of the evening, Martin extended his season wins to a team-high 24 with a 7-5 sudden victory win over #13 Nate Galloway.

At 165, McCoy would keep the momentum for the Bald Eagles with a 16-5 major win over Jarrad Turner, unfortunately the last win for LHU on the evening.

After James Yonushonis pinned sophomore Carlos Ponce (Hialeah, Fla./Hialeah Miami Lake) at 174, No. 6 Eric Bradley earned a 14-5 major decision over sophomore Mike Metzger (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) to give PSU a 24-13 advantage.

Junior Morgan Horner (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J./Hasbrouck Heights) would square off with Phil Davis at 197, and Horner would grab the early advantage with a first-minute takedown. Davis would rally in a big way, sealing the win for the Nittany Lions with a 16-6 major victory.

At heavyweight, Jamie Nagel (Shade Gap, Pa./Mount Union Area) finished the first period with a 5-1 advantage, but PSU’s Josh Walker would get an early second period takedown, following through for a pin at 4:24, and completing the scoring at 34-13.

McCoy, Martin, Collins, Blanc, Ellis, Ponce, Metzger, Horner, Nagel and the rest of the Bald Eagles are back in action Friday, Feb. 11 at 7:30 p.m. as they host the University of Pittsburgh.
