Millersville
University handed a stunned Lock Haven team a 2-1
loss this afternoon in PSAC Women’s Soccer
Tournament semifinal action, propelling the
Marauders into the conference finals to be held on
Saturday, Nov. 9., at Bloomsburg University.
A late goal by Stacy Brubaker
(Ephrata/Ephrata) broke the 1-1 tie and gave
Millersville the upset victory.
The
Haven launched several attacks early but couldn’t
convert, controlling the ball for much of the first
half. A
break down the field by Millersville in the 30th
minute opened up scoring, as Emily Pumphrey
(Sinking Spring/Wilson) crossed right to Abby
Lindsey (Middletown/Middletown) who headed the
ball at the far-post goalline past the LHU keeper
for the score.
Not one minute later, the Lady Eagles charged
towards the goal with Brooke Rangi (Kawerau, New
Zealand/Kawerau College) taking the ball down
the left sideline. Rangi turned and crossed the ball
to the near post, where Joanna
Bisphan (Hamilton, New Zealand/Hillcrest)
sent it into the back of the net before the
Millersville keeper could reach.
It
looked like overtime as time slipped past in the
second half, but in the 84th minute,
Millersville’s Abby Lindsey won the ball at
midfield then took off.
Lindsey threaded the ball forward up to Stacy
Brubaker, who lifted the ball just enough to
avoid LHU keeper’s outstretched arms as it fell
into the back of the net.
In
goal,
Millersville’s Liz Agro (Fawn Grove/Kennard
Dale) was key in the Marauder victory, turning
away nine shots on goal and punching away several
close chances on corners.
Lock Haven’s Heather Ireland (Sarnia,
Ontario/Northern NCIVS) posted three saves on
the game.
The
Lady Eagles now must wait to see if they receive a
bid to the NCAA Tournament.

2-0 win over Slippery Rock University to go
undefeated in the PSAC for the first time in school

The
Haven

banged off the post and Becky Nichols (Wind
Gap/Nazareth) reached the ricocheted ball first,
sending it into the back of the net at 6:50 for the
one-goal lead.
Two minutes later, LHU was again on the
offensive and a short pass from Clarke to Joanna
Bisphan (Hamilton, New Zealand/Hillcrest) in

and the 2-0 advantage.
In
goal, Lock Haven’s Heather Ireland (Sarnia,
Ontario/Northern NCIVS) set a new school record

The
No. 7-ranked Lady Eagle soccer team survived an
overtime scare, defeating Bloomsburg University 1-0
in extra minutes this afternoon on McCollum Field.
The win keeps Lock Haven out well ahead in
the PSAC standings with a flawless 9-0-0 mark with
two games remaining.
In
the first half The Haven pushed the ball forward on
several occasions, creating a number of scoring
opportunities turned away by big plays from
Bloomsburg goalie Heather Hartman. Lock Haven held a 7-3 advantage in shots in the first half
and an 8-1 margin in the second half but still was
unable to find the back of the net.
A Lock Haven goal scored with 4:31 remaining
was called back after the official ruled that
Hartman had control of the ball before it was kicked
in a scramble in front of the cage.
Into
overtime, Bloomsburg went on the offensive first and
attempted to slide the ball past the defense but was
thwarted by LHU keeper Heather Ireland (Sarnia,
Ontario/Northern NCIVS) just in time.
The Haven cleared the ball up the field and Brooke
Rangi (Kawerau, New Zealand/Kawerau College)
gained possession and pushed the ball up the left
sideline.
Rangi launched a cross from just outside the
top corner of the box, and Adria Vitale
(Philadelphia/St. Maria Goretti) got her foot on
it at the near post and re-directed it past the
Bloomsburg defense and into the back of the net for
the victory.
Lock
Haven’s Heather Ireland registered three saves and
with the win moves into a tie for first place on the
school’s single season mark with 11 shutouts.
Bloomsburg’s Heather Hartman stopped nine
Haven chances on goal.

The
No. 8-ranked Lady Eagle soccer team (13-1-1)
captured a big regional victory with today’s 2-0
shutout over No. 7-ranked Adelphi University
(10-1-2), handing the Panthers their first loss of
the season.
The two teams are currently in a tie for
first place in the Northeast Region.
Two
goals compliments of Brooke Rangi (Kawerau, New
Zealand/Kawerau College) gave The Haven the edge
in an evenly played match, Lock Haven getting off
eight shots and Adelphi serving up seven in addition
to two corner kick opportunities for each. The Lady Eagles jumped out into the early
lead with Rangi’s first goal in the ninth minute.
Danielle Smith (Johnson, N.Y./Minisink
Valley) passed the ball forward up to Rangi, who
launched a long shot to the far post for the
one-goal lead.
Adelphi
threatened to even the score early in the second
stanza, as Domonique Riccardo almost slid one
by LHU’s Heather Ireland (Sarnia,
Ontario/Northern NCIVS).
Ireland deflected the initial shot by
Riccardo, but the ball landed just in front of her,
and Riccardo got off another shot that hit the post
and went out of bounds.
Back on the offensive, the Lady Eagles put
the game away with another score by Rangi in the 64th
minute of action.
Rangi won the ball at midfield then worked
her way back to the box.
She forced the keeper out then won a
one-on-one match-up, sending the ball left past
Adelphi’s Andrea Fasano to give LHU the 2-0
cushion.
Both
keepers registered three saves on the game, Ireland
picking up her 10th shutout.
Adelphi’s Fasano played all 90 minutes,
allowing the two goals along with three saves.

nine-year history.
Brooke Rangi (Kawerau, New Zealand/Kawerau

Haven women’s soccer team (7-1, 3-0 PSAC) remains
undefeated in PSAC action following a 4-1 victory
over Edinboro University (2-4-2, 0-2-2 PSAC) this
afternoon on McCollum Field. Two first-half goals by
senior forward Adria Vitale (Philadelphia/St.
Maria Goretti) sealed the win for the Lady
Eagles.
An
evenly played match despite the lopsided score, both
teams kept the pressure on throughout the game
getting off 15 shots each.
The Haven jumped out to a quick lead off a
goal in the sixth minute by Adria Vitale.
Kristi Ward (Philadelphia/Nazareth
Academy) lofted the ball towards the goal,
leading Vitale who got a foot on the ball and sent
it past the Edinboro keeper for the score.
In the 23rd minute, Vitale again
finished off a scoring strike, heading the ball past
the EUP defense off a volley from
Naomi Clarke (Cambridge, New Zealand/St. Peters
School).
In
the second half, the Fighting Scots threatened with
a long goal from 18-yards out at the right corner of
the box by Stacey Oldenburg that
reached the back of the net overtop the outstretched
arms of LHU keeper Heather Ireland’s (Sarnia,
ONT/Northern NCIVS).
A similar goal by Lock Haven’s Kimberly
Thompson (Ephrata/Ephrata) brought LHU back to a
more comfortable two-point lead at 3-1 with just
under 30 minutes left to play.
Katie Taylor (Hammonton, N.J./Edgewood) added
another insurance goal with a header into the back
of the net off a free kick by Danielle Smith
(Johnson, N.Y./Minisink Valley) at 85:18.
Both
keepers were kept busy all 90 minutes, with Lock
Haven’s Ireland stopping eight shots on goal and
Edinboro’s Amy Stevens grabbing six
saves on the game.

The
Haven’s New Zealand duo of Naomi Clarke
(Cambridge, New Zealand/St. Peters School) and Brooke
Rangi (Kawerau, New Zealand/Kawerau College) led
the Lady Eagles past Concordia College, 11-0, this
afternoon in non-conference action.
Clarke pocketed four goals and one assist
while Rangi had a hat-trick and one assist.
The 11 goals mark the most scored by LHU
since early last season, when they notched 12 goals
against Wilmington College.
Lock
Haven out-shot Concordia 26-0, never giving the
Clippers a single look on goal.
Katie Taylor (Hammonton, N.J./Edgewood)
notched the first two scores, putting the ball into
the goal after a scramble in front of the box then
taking a pass from Adria Vitale (Philadelphia/St.
Maria Goretti) and burying it in the back of the
net.
At 31:24, Erika Schneider
(Mechanicsburg/Cumberland Valley) sent a ball
over top the keeper from long range after a quick
pass from Monica Mangual (Kendall Park,
N.J./South Brunswick).
In the final three minutes of the half, Rangi
scored twice on headers in front of the goal on
assists by Lindalee Thompson (Ephrata/Ephrata)
and Erin Walsh (Chalfont/Central Bucks West)
and Clarke pocketed her first goal on an assist from
Rangi.
It
took LHU until midway through the second half to
open up the scoring again, as Danielle Smith
(Johnson, N.Y./Minisink Valley) sent a free kick
into the high left corner for the seventh goal of
the game with 69:57 expired.
Clarke returned the first–half favor from
Rangi, drawing out the keeper then passing left to
Rangi who tapped the ball into the goal to make the
score 8-0.
Clarke
would take the ball herself on three more attacks to
wrap up Haven scoring, including one from an assist
from another New Zealand product in Joanna
Bisphan (Hamilton, New Zealand/Hillcrest).
