Lady Eagles Headed To PSAC Championship Game
After 2-1 Semifinal Win Over West Chester

>>>full box score

The Lady Eagle soccer team, shutout in the regular season against West Chester (11-5-3), kept its championship hopes alive by reversing its earlier fortune and knocking off the second-seeded Golden Rams with a 2-1 final in the PSAC semifinal match-up this afternoon.  A second-half goal by Brooke Rangi (Kawerau, New Zealand/Kawerau College) broke a 1-1 tie to give Lock Haven, now 10-11-1 overall, its sixth appearance in the PSAC title game.
The Haven’s Martina Hall (Klagenfurt, Austria/Ingeborg Bachmann) opened scoring with a shot to the back of the net with seven minutes remaining in the first half. Caitlin Sultzbach (Lititz/Warwick) broke away from the field, then shook one last defender before drawing out the keeper and tapping the ball to Hall, who completed the play with a goal at 37:58.
Just 24 seconds later, the Golden Ram’s Julie Karcher answered with the equalizer on a cross from the left corner by Kelly Ryan directly off the re-start following the Haven goal.  With neither team gaining the upper hand in the remaining minutes, the two squads went into halftime deadlocked at 1-1.
Still tied midway through the second half, LHU was awarded a crucial scoring opportunity on a free kick.  Danielle Smith (Johnson, N.Y./Minisink Valley) took the kick, laying it into the box where Brooke Rangi took control, heading the ball towards the back post for the game-winner. The Lady Eagle defense held strong over the remainder of the game for the 2-1 victory.
Lock Haven received another big game in goal by junior keeper Brandie Kessler (Bethlehem/Saucon Valley), who stopped eight of nine West Chester shots on goal. West Chester
’s Ryan Levine posted five saves.
West Chester out shot the Lady Eagles, 9-7, and owned a sizable, 8-1 advantage in corner kick chances.
The Lady Eagles will head to #1 Slippery Rock University
on Sunday, November 9, for the PSAC Championship game.  Slippery Rock ( 14-2-2 ), ranked 14th in the nation, advanced to the finals after a 5-2 victory over the fourth-seeded Millersville University .
