           Lock Haven University women’s soccer lost in a 2-1 conference battle against Millersville University ( 13-5-1 , 9-3 PSAC) this afternoon, wrapping up the regular season with an 8-11-1 overall mark.  Their 6-5-1 ledger in the PSAC makes them the sixth seed in the conference tournament, which will begin with first-round action on Tues., Nov. 4.
          Millersville controlled the tempo of the game, taking 18 shots to Lock Haven’s four attempts.  Susan Kerr pocketed both Marauder tallies, scoring the only goal of the first half in the 41st minute to give Millersville the 1-0 lead by intermission.  Kerr’s second goal came in the 69th minute, extending the gap to 2-0.  
          Lock Haven’s Holly Homsher (Millersville/Penn Manor) scored off a cross from Kathleen Custer (Philadelphia/Nazareth Academy) with just 6:20 left in regulation to cut the lead in half, but the Lady Eagles were unable to complete the come-back and fell by the 2-1 final.
         In goal, Brandie Kessler (Bethlehem/Saucon Valley) stopped 10 of 14 shots taken to help keep the game close.  Millersville’s Carolyn Matisick totaled two saves over the course of the game.

Up Next:  The Lady Eagles will face the #3 seed Kutztown University ( 14-2-3 , 9-2-1 PSAC) in the first round of the PSAC tournament on Tues., Nov. 4, at Kutztown , Pa.    Game time is set for 1 p.m.

      The Lady Eagle soccer team was forced to accept the low end of a 2-1 decision after a West Virginia Wesleyan College goal in the 89th minute brought an abrupt halt to a 65-minute scoring drought and broke what had been a 1-1 tie this afternoon in Buckhannon , W.Va.   W. Va. Wesleyan, ranked fifth in the Great Lakes Region, improves to 13-3-2 overall, while Lock Haven falls to 8-10-1 on the season.  
       Lock Haven had taken the lead in the 22nd minute on a goal by Cheryl Runko (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) assisted by Holly Homsher (Millersville/Penn Manor).  Just two minutes later, the Bobcats tied up the game at 1-1 with a long shot from outside the 18-yard box for the goal by Sarah St. Clair.  
       The game would remain stuck at 1-1 throughout the remainder of the first half and 43:51 of the second before W.Va. Wesleyan’s Kasie Thomas was able to sneak a shot through the Haven defense for the game-winner with just over a minute to go. 
        Haven keeper Brandie Kessler (Bethlehem/Saucon Valley) played the entire game, making six saves.  The Bobcats’ Savarino collected seven stops.
 

Up Next:  The Lady Eagles are on the road at PSAC opponent Millersville University on Sat., Nov. 1, for a 3 p.m. contest.   Lock Haven has already clinched a spot in the PSAC playoffs, but the outcome of Saturday’s contest will help determine which seed the Lady Eagles receive.

          The Lock Haven women’s soccer team sits on the verge of receiving a berth into the PSAC playoffs, defeating California ( Pa. ) University ( 9-6-2 , 3-5-2 PSAC) on the road by a final score of 3-1.  The Lady Eagles are now 8-9-1 overall and 6-4-1 in the conference, and have one regular season PSAC match-up remaining.
          Sophomore Kimberly Thompson (Ephrata/Ephrata) put LHU on the board first with a goal off assists from Martina Hall ( Klagenfurt , Austria /Ingeborg Bachmann) and Caitlin Sultzbach (Lititz/Warwick) in the 35th minute of play.  California ’s Terri Flaherty booted the equalizer past the Haven defense with just over one minute remaining until the close of the half to even the score at 1-1.
           It was not until the 73-minute mark when LHU’s Hall scored the go-ahead goal for the Lady Eagles, heading the ball through to the back off the net off a cross from Holly Homsher (Millersville/Penn Manor).  Joanna Bisphan ( Hamilton , New Zealand /Hillcrest) added an insurance goal in the 84th minute, making good on a pass from Caitlin Martz (Plum/Plum).
           Haven goalkeeper Brandie Kessler (Bethlehem/Saucon Valley) recorded four saves over the 90-minute span, while California ’s Dana Galiffa posted five saves.

        The Lock Haven women’s soccer team (7-9-1, 5-4-1 PSAC) kept its playoff hopes alive with this afternoon’s 5-2 decision over Bloomsburg University (4-12, 3-7 PSAC).  The catalyst for the Lady Eagle victory came from freshman midfielder Martina Hall (Klagenfurt, Austria/Ingeborg Bachmann), who dominated the offense with a hat trick and one assist.
        Hall’s first strike came in the 15th minute, hitting the back of the net off an assist from Holly Homsher (Millersville/Penn Manor) on a break down field.  The Huskies’ reply came in the 39th minute, as Kelly Salvaterra scored an unassisted tally to knot the game at one goal apiece.  Lock Haven regained the lead just before the close of the half, with Kathleen Custer (Philadelphia/Nazareth Academy) heading a ball from Joanna Bisphan (Hamilton, New Zealand/Hillcrest) through the defense for the 2-1 advantage.
        Hall had a hand in all three second-half Haven goals, netting the first nine minutes into the frame on long ball from outside the 18-yard box.  Bisphan scored in the 66th minute to give LHU a 4-1 lead, finishing off a pass from Hall for the goal.  Hall’s third and final goal was delivered in the 79th minute of the game to widen the gap to 5-1.  Bloomsburg’s Vanessa Peregrim scored just before the close of the half to edge the final score to 5-2 in favor of the Lady Eagles.
       Haven keepers Diane Wall (Green Lane/Pennridge) and Brandie Kessler (Bethlehem/Saucon Valley) split duty, Wall totaling four saves and one goal against, while Kessler also had one goal against and six saves.

       The Lady Eagles (6-9-1, 4-4-1 PSAC) suffered a loss in PSAC play to 25th ranked Kutztown University (11-1-3, 7-1-1 PSAC) with a score of 3-1. 

       The Lady Eagles out shot Kutztown 14-6, but were unable to find the back of the net more than once. Kutztown’s Lauren Tatro opened the scoring with the lone goal of the first half, when she scored from 18 yards out. Less than four minutes into the second half Kutztown’s Kelly Lau scored from one yard out.  Brooke Rangi (Kawerau, New Zealand/Kawerau College) brought the game to within a goal with the Haven’s only tally. With just under five minutes remaining Kelly Lau put the game away with her second goal of the game.

       In goal for the Haven was Diane Wall (Green Lane, Pa./Pennridge) who tallied two saves and allowed three goals.  Kutztown’s Mandi Johnsen registered nine saves and allowed only one goal.

       The Lock Haven women’s soccer team turned out a 1-0 victory and its third straight conference win while on the road against Clarion University (3-9-0, 0-6-0) this evening. The Lady Eagles improve to 6-8-1 overall and 4-3-1 in the PSAC.
        Lock Haven owned a 14-8 advantage on shots taken, while teams were nearly even on corner kick chances, LHU taking four to Clarion’s three.  A scoreless tie lasted until the game’s 23rd minute, when Sarah Recher ( Mountville , Pa. / Hempfield) won a ball out of the air and threaded it to Danielle Smith ( Johnson , N.Y. / Minisink Valley ) who polished off the play with her fourth goal of the season.  
        Lady Eagle goalkeepers Diane Wall (Green Lane/Pennridge) and Brandie Kessler (Bethlehem/Saucon Valley) split time in goal, Wall stopping two Clarion shots while Kessler halted one Golden Eagle shot on goal.  Clarion’s Christina Gatten posted seven saves.

        The Lady Eagles captured their second win in a row with an overtime victory against East Stroudsburg University , 2-1. Lock Haven’s Monica Mangual ( Kendall Park , N.J./South Brunswick ) netted the winning goal three minutes into the overtime period off a pass from Holly Homsher ( Millersville , Pa. /Penn Manor).
        In the first half, East Stroudsburg ’s Sara Barnard put the Warriors on the board with a header just 14 minutes into the game. The game remained 1-0 into the second half until the Haven’s Danielle Smith ( Johnson , N.Y. / Minisink Valley ) tied the game up off a corner kick by Sarah Recher ( Mountville , Pa. / Hempfield). Both teams would shut each other out for the remainder of the regulation time to send the game into overtime where Lock Haven’s Mangual gave LHU the 2-1 victory.

       The Lady Eagle soccer team captured its second win in the conference and its second shutout victory with this afternoon’s 1-0 decision over the visiting Lady Raiders of Shippensburg University ( 8-3-1 , 2-2-1 PSAC).  Lock Haven improves to 4-8-1 overall and 2-3-1 in the PSAC. 
        Neither team was able to generate a goal early, the Lady Eagles getting off six first half shots while the Raiders attempted four without hitting paydirt.  Lock Haven came out with a rejuvenated offensive attack following the half time break, keeping the Shippensburg defense busy with nine shots including five on target.  The Lady Eagles were awarded their first of two corner kicks in the game at 57:01, and the kick by Holly Homsher (Millersville/Penn Manor) sailed to far post where Kimberly Thompson (Ephrata/Ephrata) headed the ball into the back corner for the one-goal lead and eventual victory.  
        Lock Haven keeper Diane Wall (Green Lane/Pennridge) registered three saves in 90 minutes of action, while Shippensburg’s Meredith Yakscoe-Markle came up with six stops over the span of the game.

        The Lock Haven women’s soccer team saw an early one-goal lead evaporated by the CW Post Pioneers (5-6), as the Lady Eagles fell, 2-1, in non-conference action on a rain-soaked Foundation Field this afternoon.  LHU’s overall record falls to 3-8-1 .
         LHU’s Danielle Smith (Johnson, N.Y./Minisink Valley) headed the ball into the back of the net off a high free kick by Brooke Rangi ( Kawerau , New Zealand / Kawerau College ) in the game’s 20th minute to push out into the early 1-0 lead.  CW Post matched the Haven’s score after a scuffle in front of the goal as Kelly Castaldo capitalized off a rebounded ball at 30:34.
        Colby Vukov gave the Pioneers the lead early in the second half, sending a hard shot through the LHU defense from 18-yards out for the 2-0 advantage.  The lead stuck as CW Post keeper Nicole Massari would stop all three of LHU’s second half shots on goal.
        Lock Haven’s Diane Wall ( Green Lane /Pennridge) had two saves over the 90-minute span, while Post’s Massari ended with six saves in goal.

       The Lock Haven women’s soccer team was forced to settle for a 2-1 loss against Edinboro University ( 7-4-1 , 2-2-1 PSAC) this afternoon, falling to 3-7-1 overall and 1-3-1 in the conference.
       Big defensive play in the first half led to a scoreless tie by the midway mark despite seven shot attempts by the Lady Eagles. Into the second half, the Fighting Scots were the first to strike, as Stacey Oldenburg chipped a rebounded ball to Jamie Tekotte who placed it into the back of the net past the Haven defenders in the 59th minute. 
       Lock Haven’s Danielle Smith (Johnson, N.Y./Minisink Valley) rocketed a free kick into the back of the net to score the equalizer in the 72nd minute of action.  The Lady Eagles’ chances were cut short as time wore on and Edinboro’s Oldenburg received a direct kick with just 33 seconds left in the game. Oldenburg ’s kick sailed through the Haven defenses and into the goal, granting the Scots the one-goal advantage with time fading fast.  Last second efforts by the Lady Eagles fell short of their mark, as the Haven closed on the low end of the 2-1 margin.
      Keeper Diane Wall ( Green Lane /Pennridge) tallied three saves in her first appearance, while Edinboro’s Tricia Chilcott and Abbey Mortus split time in goal, each recording three saves.

         The Lady Eagle soccer team suffered a 4-0 loss on the road at No. 7-ranked Adelphi University ( 5-1-1 ) this afternoon, falling to 3-6-1 on the season.
         Adelphi goals by Josephine Coiro and Lena Dunning came in the first six minutes of the game, digging the Haven a 2-0 hole early into the contest.  Two more scores by Adelphi in the second half (Luciana Pace, Jessica Marra) brought the game final to 4-0 in favor of the home team.
         The Haven’s Brandie Kessler (Bethlehem/Saucon Valley) was kept busy, turning away four Panther shots on goal.  Adelphi’s Andrea Fasano made two saves.

          The Lady Eagle soccer team captured its first conference victory, using its depth to defeat Mansfield University ( 1-5-1 , 0-4 PSAC) by a final 5-1 score.  Lock Haven is now 3-5-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the PSAC.
          The Haven’s New Zealand connection of Brooke Rangi ( Kawerau , New Zealand / Kawerau College ) and Joanna Bisphan ( Hamilton , New Zealand /Hillcrest) combined to give the Lady Eagles the 2-0 lead by the midway point of the first half. Rangi scored first in the seventh minute off an indirect kick from the diagonal 20 yards out, assisted on the play by Bisphan.  It was Bisphan’s turn at 24:25 when she took a cross from Rangi and headed it past the keeper.  Just before the close of the first half, freshman Cheryl Runko (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) rushed in on the keeper on a corner kick by Holly Homsher (Millersville/Penn Manor) and knocked it into the back of the net for the 3-0 Haven lead.
          Jaralai Powell (Brown Mills, N.J./Pemberton) notched her first goal of the season in the second half, scoring from just right of the goal off a cross from Erin Walsh (Chalfont/Central Bucks West).  The final Haven goal came off the foot of Caitlin Sultzbach (Lititz/Warwick), who lifted a pass from Monica Mangual ( Kendall Park , N.J. / S. Brunswick ) into the upper corner.  
         Mansfield ’s lone goal came with just 1:38 remaining as Valerie Shaw touched the ball into Amy Dominick. Dominick took the shot from directly in front of the goal and sent it through the LHU defense to the back of the net.
        LHU goalie Brandie Kessler (Bethlehem/Saucon Valley) tallied five saves in the win, while Mansfield’s Julie Miller (2 ga/2 sv) and Nicole Rodweller (3 ga/9 sv) split time in goal for the Mountaineers.
