LOCK HAVEN, Pa. –
Limping into the
game after two consecutive losses, the Lock Haven
University women’s soccer squad (2-4, 1-0 PSAC)
dominated Clarion University (1-5, 0-2 PSAC) everywhere
except on the scoreboard, en route to their first
Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) victory in
a 1-0 tally.
LHU out shot the Golden
Eagles by an amazing 28-6 margin, including 15-2 in the
first half. The Lady Eagles also had more corner kicks,
topping Clarion 8-1 in that category.
Senior Brooke Rangi
(Kawerau, New Zealand/Kawerau College) tallied the lone
goal of the contest, her team-best second of the season,
at the 14:39 mark in the first half. Rangi took a pass
from Junior Erin Walsh (Chalfont, Pa./Central
Bucks West) at the top of the goal box, turned and fired
a shot just under the left arm of Clarion goalkeeper C.J.
Gathers.
“I’m happy to get the
win, but we need to take better advantage of our
chances,” Lock Haven head coach Peter Campbell
said of the 28 shots with just one goal. “It’s been the
story of our entire season, we’ve only been out shot in
one game this year.”
A crucial offside call
on Clarion’s Alisha Turner halted a two-on-one scoring
chance with 10:03 left in the game.
Junior Heather
Ireland (Sarnia, Ontario/Northern NCIVS) stopped
both shots on goal for her second shutout of the season,
improving to 2-4, and Gathers got a workout, making 13
stops in 14 tries to fall to 0-5 on the season.
Rangi, Walsh, Campbell,
Ireland and the rest of the Lady Eagles are back in
action at Slippery Rock University, Saturday, Sept. 18
