LOCK HAVEN, Pa. –The
Lock Haven University women’s soccer team (2-5, 1-1 PSAC)
outlasted the University of Bridgeport (4-2) 1-0 today
at McCollum Field. For the third game in a row,
Brooke Rangi (Kawerau, New Zealand/Kawerau College)
tallied the only Lady Eagle goal.
Both teams tightened up
their defense as the game went along. After a scoreless
first half that saw LHU outshoot the Purple Knights
13-10, Rangi took a crossing pass from Diane Wall
(Green Lane/Pennridge) at the top of the goal box, moved
left around the defender and then hit the upper right
side of the net for the game-winner.
Bridgeport had an
excellent scoring chance with 5:24 left as Janelle Noel
found herself behind the defense with the ball. She
fired away, but LHU goalkeeper Heather Ireland (Sarnia,
Ontario/Northern NCIVS) made one of her six stops to
preserve her third win and shutout on the season.
UB keeper Allison
Verobel made 10 saves in the losing effort.
Rangi, Wall, Ireland and
the rest of the Lady Eagles are back in action Saturday,
Sept. 25 at 1 p.m. at California University of
Pennsylvania. |
