LOCK HAVEN, Pa. –The
Lock Haven University women’s soccer team (4-5-1, 2-1
PSAC West) fought to a defensive-minded tie with West
Chester University (4-2-1, 3-2 PSAC East), 1-1 today at
McCollum field. Senior Brooke Rangi (Kawerau, New
Zealand/Kawerau College) scored a goal for the fifth
straight game.
Both teams played
excellent defense, allowing just 10 total shots on goal.
Rangi got the scoring started midway through the second
half off a pass from Diane Wall (Green Lane,
Pa./Penn Ridge) that she knocked off the bottom half of
the crossbar and into the net. Rangi’s goal was her 33rd
career strike, tied for fourth in school history.
Alison Luberski forced
the extra periods by heading in a corner kick for her
first goal of the year with just over 13 minutes left in
the game.
The teams managed a total
of just four shots in the two extra periods. Danielle
Smith (Johnson, N.Y./Misinik Valley) nearly brought
home a win for LHU, but her free kick from 30 yards out
hit the crossbar and eluded the rest of the LHU offense
as time ran out.
Heather Ireland
(Sarnia, Ontario/Northern NCIVS) made five saves in six
chances for the Lady Eagles.
Rangi, Wall, Smith, Ireland and the rest of the Lady
Eagles are back in action Wednesday, Sept. 29 at
Edinboro University at 4 p.m. |
