LOCK HAVEN, Pa.-The
Lock Haven’s women’s soccer team (6-6-1, 4-1 PSAC West)
got a huge victory today over the Indiana University
Indians (11-2, 3-2 PSAC West) by the score of 1-0.
The teams played
aggressively throughout the first half, but no one could
get on the scoreboard. The Haven came out in the second
half and got on the board eight minutes in, on a goal by
junior midfielder Monica Mangual (Kendall Park,
NJ/South Brunswick). The teams played hard
throughout the rest of the second half and LHU got some
impressive defensive plays from the entire Haven
defense.
The key play in the
second half was a remarkable save by Heather Ireland
(Sarina, Ontario/Spring Arbor) with only a
1:30 remaining.
Ireland improves to 5-6-1
with the shutout, giving her 19 for her career, placing
her second all-time at LHU. Sarah Daw had 6 saves in the
loss, while teammate Becky Dillard had one save for the
Indians.
The Haven held on for the
victory and raised its record to 6-6-1 overall and 4-1
in the PSAC West. Their next game will be on Wednesday,
Oct 6 against Slippery Rock at McCollum Field with a 4
p.m. start. |
