INDIANA, Pa. –
Senior Brooke Rangi’s
(Kawerau, New Zealand/Kawerau College) hat-trick got Lock
Haven University women’s soccer (9-6-2, 6-1-1 PSAC West)
to overtime, but Holly Homsher’s 104th-minute goal
gave the Lady Eagles the 4-3 win over Indiana University
(Pa.) today. The win moves LHU women’s soccer into at
least a tie for first in the Pennsylvania State Athletic
Conference West Division.
The Haven got off to a
poor start, falling behind by 3-0 just two minutes into
the second half. Crystal Heder, Erin Falce and Shelley
Queiser hit for IUP, giving them a daunting three-goal
lead.
Rangi got her personal
scoring parade started with 33 minutes left in the second
half, following that up with a pair of strikes assisted by
Homsher. Rangi’s final goal game with just three minutes
left in regulation.
The teams fought through a
scoreless overtime period before Homsher took a pass from
senior Danielle Smith (Johnson, N.Y./Minisink
Valley) to win the game.
Freshman Emily Wagner
(Brick, N.J./Brick Township) entered in relief, going a
scoreless final 33 minutes (with six saves) to improve to
2-0 in limited duty. Becky Dillard made 15 saves in 19
tries for IUP.
Rangi, Homsher, Smith, Wagner and the rest of the Lady
Eagles are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 23 at noon as
they host California University.
