LOCK
HAVEN, Pa. – After a tough
start to the season, Lock Haven University women’s
soccer (1-5, 1-3 PSAC West) secured their first win
against Clarion University (1-6, 0-3 PSAC West), 1-0.
Senior midfielder
Monica Mangual
(Kendall Park, N.J./South Brunswick)
tallied her first goal of the season off
an assist from
Missy Blazina
(Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain).
The match
was dominated by the Lady Eagles from start to finish. LHU
out-shot Clarion 22-7 with sophomore goalkeeper
Emily Wagner
(Brick, N.J./Brick Township) getting her first shutout
of the season. Wagner made six saves in the win,
out-performing Clarion’s keeper who only had four. The
Haven defense, led by sophomore
Lynette Reitz
(Montoursville, Pa./Montoursville)
only allowed three shots in the second
half.
Mangual’s
goal was a terrific shot from outside the box that fooled
the Golden Eagle’s keeper. Sophomore forward
Colleen Kafka
(Candor, N.Y./Candor) came off the bench to lead the
team in shots on goal with two. The win was a total team
effort with 12 Lady Eagles firing off shots.
“I’m
thrilled,” said head coach
Heather Kendra.
“We’ve been playing great the last few games but just
haven’t had the finisher. Today was a great effort from
everyone and we look forward to Thursday’s contest against
Philadelphia University.”
The Lady
Eagles are back in action Thursday, Sept. 15 at 4 p.m.
when they host Philadelphia University in a non-conference
match-up. |
