LOCK
HAVEN, Pa –
Lock Haven University graduate assistant women’s soccer coach
Christy Ganc was recently named assistant soccer coach at Division I
Loyola College by head coach John Byford. Ganc, who played under Byford
for the 1999-2000 seasons at St. Joseph’s University, has been a
graduate assistant coach for the Lady Eagles the past year.
“Coaching
at Lock Haven has given me the all around experience both on and off the
field,” said Ganc. “Working with the
administration, recruiting and
coaching the players will provide me with a strong base for my
transition to Division I.”
During
her time at Lock Haven the team went 11-7-2 with an impressive 8-1-1 in
the PSAC West. The team enjoyed their ninth 10-win season in a row. Ganc
helped coach two players to all-region honors as well as six players to
the all-conference teams. During her one season at Lock Haven she
worked under former head coach and current Associate Athletic Director
Peter Campbell as well as current Lady Eagle head coach
Heather Kendra. She was an
integral part of all facets of the coaching duties including recruiting
and working with the individual players.
“We’re
sorry to lose such a great coach,” said Kendra. “But we are excited for
her and the challenges she will face at the Division I level.”
Prior to
arriving at Lock Haven, Ganc had a
four-year career as the starting goalkeeper for the Saint Joseph’s
University (Pa.) women’s soccer team. She closed out her stint in goal
second among Hawk keepers with 245 career saves and third with an
overall 2.04 goals against average. Named the Hawks’ Most Valuable
Player following her senior campaign in 2002, she was also successful in
the classroom. A four-time recipient of the scholar-athlete award at St.
Joseph’s, Ganc additionally earned placement on the Dean’s List during
four semesters.
