The Center seeks to assist students in three major areas academic and social adjustment, as well as financial literacy. Students are encouraged to contact the CEI as a starting point for any type of question. It is a place where you can get the answers, assistance and encouragement you need to achieve your goals. The CEI will assist students in becoming engaged members of the LHU community, to think critically about their roles and responsibilities as students, and to apply a liberal education across disciplinary and cultural boundaries.

Academic Improvement Program
The Academic Improvement Program (AIP) was developed to help and guide students who find themselves in academic jeopardy (warning or probation). Any student on warning or probation status will be required to work with the AIP Coordinator and/or the student’s academic advisor, to develop an appropriate academic improvement plan.
LHU’s Office of Disability Services for Students is committed to achieving equal educational access for all students with disabilities. Students with documented disabilities, who are registered with Disability Services for Students, are provided with support and reasonable and effective accommodations in accordance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disability Act (1990), and the ADA Amendments Act of 2008.
The faculty and staff from the Act 101 Program provide ongoing professional and peer counseling, study skills instruction, and tutorial services.
Jump Start Program
The Jump Start program is an admissions intiative designed to provide access and support to students with academic and personal potential, who would otherwise be excluded from higher education due to circumstances of academic under performance.
The TRIO SSS Scholars Program’s primary objective is to promote the academic success of participants, leading to higher rates of good academic standing (2.0 grade point average or higher), retention (staying in college), and graduation. Students who are selected for TRIO SSS Scholars receive assistance with all aspects of their college transition and gain valuable access to university life skills and resources that promote success. Faculty and staff from the TRIO SSS Scholars Program are involved in teaching, consulting, mentoring, and advising to address students’ needs.
TRIO Upward Bound gives students various cultural experiences, helps them explore career options, and teaches them how to navigate the college application and financial aid processes. We strive to guide and enhance students’ opportunities to pursue a degree and continue with their academic careers and beyond. To be eligible, students must be a 9th-12th grader at a target high school (Central Mountain; Bucktail; Jersey Shore; Williamsport) planning to go to college/post-secondary education, demonstrate financial need, need the services in order to fulfill their goals, and/or be the first in their family to attend college.
Tutoring is provided at no charge and is available to all students in general edeucation 100 and 200 level courses not covered by the Math, Psychology, or Writing Centers. Group peer tutoring is provided by trained group peer tutors who are students at LHU. Students, in their first two years of study, are encouraged to arrange tutorial assistance during the early part of each semester if they anticipate or encounter difficulty with course work.
The Writing Center provides tutorial and workshop assistance for students who wish to improve their writing skills. Supervised by a faculty director from the Department of English and staffed by trained peer tutors, the Writing Center offers individual writing consultation on a drop-in or online basis. Guidance is offered in all phases of the writing process: planning, organizing, developing, revising, and editing. Self-instructional materials, including webpage worksheets on specific topics such as usage, mechanics, and punctuation are available, as well as writing handbooks, style books, and other references. The Writing Center also offers instruction in word processing and basic computer applications. Networked computers are available for student use.
