Global Honors Program
My name is Dr. Jackie Whitling, and I am the director of the Global Honors Program at Lock Haven University. I’m delighted that you took a few minutes today to learn more about the unique opportunities that our program can provide you throughout your entire college experience.
Our program is one-of-a-kind due to our established academic curriculum, strong focus on community building and student leadership, and the myriad of supplementary opportunities we offer. By joining our program, you will not only be a member of the highest achieving and most enriching academic program on campus, but also you will have the opportunities to become student leaders, apply for a scholarship to study abroad, compete for academic scholarships, establish professional and personal relationships with professors, present research projects at regional and national honors conferences, and make friendships that will last a lifetime.
One of the proudest aspects of our program is our focus on student leadership. Our Student Associate Directors, Freshmen Development Group Leaders, and other group leaders and coordinators play a vital role in the daily operations of the program. Their hard work and dedication helps the program achieve new heights and be a thriving, successful community of nearly three hundred students. As a student in LHU’s Global Honors Program, you can navigate your honors future and make positive contributions to the program.
You may be wondering why we are called a ‘Global’ honors program rather than simply an ‘Honors’ Program, as almost all our counterparts across the country are. What sets us apart from those programs is our focus on global issues in all aspects of our programming, including curriculum and academic events. Our students conduct semester-long study abroad, service-learning trips to third-world countries, and their student teaching practicum at one of our International partnerships.
I hope you will explore our entire honors website to learn more about the Global Honors Program. Our motto here is “Expand Knowledge, Establish Leaders, Emphasize Community”. I hope that you will consider joining our one-of-a-kind program and make this motto your own!
