For a rising Sophomore, Junior or Senior in the College of Liberal Arts and Education maintaining a GPA of 3.0 and demonstrating financial need.

Communication & Philosophy

Dr. Saundra K. Hybels Memorial Scholarship

For three students majoring in Communication Media or majoring in the Journalism, Electronic Media, or Advertising and Public Relations track within the Communication Program.  One scholarship for a rising sophomore, one for a rising junior, and one for a rising senior.  Must excel in the field of Journalism and Mass Communication.  Must demonstrate financial need and have a minimum GPA of 2.5.  Special consideration will be given to Lock Haven Area School District graduates.  Disbursed among the three recipients equally.

Margaret Ann Brown Memorial Scholarship

For Communication Media or Communication majors who successfully complete at least 72 but not more than 104 credit hours at the end of the most recent fall semester; successfully complete 12 credit hours of LHU COMM, JOUR, or MCOM courses by the end of the most recent fall semester; attain the highest GPA at the end of the most recent fall semester of any declared Communication Media or Communication major who meets the criteria listed above.  Must be enrolled as a full-time student for the spring semester when the scholarship is awarded.

Rebecca Gross Journalism Award

For an outstanding senior majoring in Communication Media or majoring in Communication who are completing the Journalism Track, the Electronic Media Track, or the Advertising & Public Relations Track. Must have a 3.0 GPA. Service in other campus or off-campus activities includes volunteer work and paid work related to some form of journalism or mass communication.

For students in good academic standing majoring in an Education discipline.  (Scholarship will be divided with each student receiving at least $1000 each)

Dr. Paula D. Packer Memorial Education Scholarship

For a student majoring in an Education discipline with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and is participating in student teaching. First priority given to Early Childhood Education major. Second priority given to PreK-Grade 4 or 4-8 Middle Level majors. Third priority given to any other education field under the administration of the LHU Department of Elementary Secondary Education.

Ernest I. Schrot and Emma B. Schrot-Benner Memorial Scholarship

Scholarship 1: To provide a scholarship to a rising junior or senior with a minimum GPA of 3.0, U.S. Citizen with financial need in the education major with preference given to one who demonstrates an interest in education-safety, audio visual services or drivers education. Scholarship 2: To provide a scholarship to a rising junior or senior student who is a U.S. Citizen with financial need seeking a Bachelor of Science in Education with a specialty in English.

James & Carole Reeser Scholarship

For a junior or senior Secondary Education or PreK-Grade 4 or 4-8 Middle Level majors with a minimum GPA of 3.0.  Recipients shall alternate between the two majors.

Mary A. Coploff Education Scholarship

For a rising junior or senior Education major seeking teacher certification in the   4-8 program or combined programs including grades 4-8.  Financial need will be a consideration.

Max Fromm Memorial Scholarship

For a sophomore or junior demonstrating financial need and exemplifying professional promise as a teacher.

Robert Lynch Minority Scholarship

For a student who is a member of an underrepresented group.  Preference given to students who are Education majors with a minimum GPA of 2.5 and have completed 32 credits.

The Updegraff Family Scholarship

For a rising senior Education major who demonstrates financial need and is in good academic standing.

Thomas C. Hoy Memorial Scholarship

For a rising sophomore, junior or senior Secondary Education Science major with a minimum GPA of 3.0.  Preference given to Keystone Central School District graduate who has documented financial need.

Thomas E. Wolfe Memorial Scholarship

For students majoring in Secondary Education, Social Science who have maintained a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the major courses, completed 45 to 85 credit hours, and have taken at least two major courses at LHU. Recipients may be considered for this award a second time provided eligibility requirements are maintained. During any single year, no student will be permitted to receive both this and the Nelson E. Wolfe Scholarship.

Susan Selleck Memorial Scholarship

For an LHU student majoring in Early Childhood Education, with preference given to a Jersey Shore Area High School graduate.  Minimum GPA of 3.0. Donor would like to be a part of the selection process.

For an Education major demonstrating academic achievement.

J. Frederick Hunter Memorial Scholarship

For a rising junior or senior with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and is a current resident of Clinton or Centre County.  Five scholarships award, one to a student in each of the following majors:  Art, Biology, Education, History and Math.

Lew & Myla Magent Education Scholarship

For a dual major sophomore, junior or senior majoring in Special Education and a second major in either PreK-Grade 4 or 4-8 Middle Level majors, Early Childhood or Physical Education, with a minimum GPA of 3.4 in Special Education and minimum overall GPA of 3.2.

Class of 1959 Scholarship

For a rising junior or senior Education major with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and demonstration of community service/leadership positions.  To be selected by Dean of College of Liberal Arts and Education Services.  Applicant must provide three (3) detailed recommendations.

Dr. Betty Baird Schantz Scholarship

For a rising sophomore, junior or senior PreK-Grade 4 or 4-8 Middle Level majors from Clearfield or Clinton Counties. Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and excel academically in the Education curriculum.

Caroline Cathcart Alleman Memorial Scholarship

For a full-time PreK-Grade 4 or 4-8 Middle Level majors major of worthy character and a minimum GPA of 3.0.  Must be active in pre-professional activities.

For a full-time rising sophomore, junior or senior majoring in PreK-Grade 4 or 4-8 Middle Level majors with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and demonstrated financial need.

The Dr. Perry Brown Memorial Scholarship

For a full-time PreK-Grade 4 or 4-8 Middle Level majors with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and demonstrating financial need.  Must have attained sophomore status by next semester.

To be awarded to a student who writes the best history paper or essay.

For a Political Science Major with at least 45 earned credits, 9 of which must be taken in Political Science.

For rising junior or senior students majoring in Foreign Language, based on academic achievement and demonstration of financial need.

J. Frederick Hunter Memorial Scholarship (History)

For a rising junior or senior with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and is a current resident of Clinton or Centre County.  Five scholarships award, one to a student in each of the following majors:  Art, Biology, Education, History and Math.

Nelson E. Wolfe Memorial Scholarship

For students majoring in History, Social Studies with a specialization in either History or Anthropology, who have maintained a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the major courses; must have completed at least 45 credit hours, and have taken at least two major courses at LHU. $

The Chris & Sherry Dwyer Political Science Scholarship

For students majoring in Political Science who are graduates of Central Mountain High School.

Michael Greenberg MD, MBA Foreign Language Award

To provide annual awards to students in each of the French, German and Spanish languages at level 102(II), and to one student in each of the French, German and Spanish languages at level 202 (level IV) or as determined by department.

The Dr. Cecilia Macia Scholarship

Annual award for a student majoring in Spanish who will participate in an LHU international exchange to a Spanish speaking country. Must have greatest financial need of all applicants and a minimum GPA of 2.5 and a minimum GPA of 3.5 in Spanish. Must also have at least 60 credits.

The Virginia A. Martin Women & Gender Studies Memorial Scholarship

For two rising sophomore, junior or seniors minoring in Women and Gender Studies.  Must show evidence of leadership/engagement in women and gender issues on the campus or in the community and must discuss this evidence in a scholarship essay of at least 100 words.  Minimum GPA of 2.7 or higher throughout whole year after receipt of scholarship.  Selected by WGS Scholarship Committee ($250 each). Graduating seniors not eligible.

Mary Ulmer Music Scholarship

For Pennsylvania residents who are rising juniors or seniors with a minimum GPA of 2.5 participating in at least one of the University music programs and demonstrating talent and interest in music. Must demonstrate financial need.

The Miriam Herr Claster Award

For students exhibiting exceptional musical talent. First priority to music majors with secondary considerations given to persons in PreK-Grade 4 or 4-8 Middle Level majors music emphasis program.

For full-time junior Music majors currently performing in the LHU marching band and one other major ensemble in the Music Department.
