8-31-10

We began the year by discussing what is involved in Unit Planning. We chose the first chapter in an 8th-grade textbook and began planning in groups of three. We wrote our goals and created our unit test.

HW:  1.  Spend about an hour researching Unit Planning on the internet. Write down (or copy and paste, or print out) some points that you found interesting or helpful. Come into class on Thursday prepared to discuss what you read.

                        2.  Have your unit test completed. It does not need to be typed, but it does need to be complete. Be prepared to share your test with the class and to submit one clean copy, with an answer key.

                        3.  Go through the sections in the unit we are creating and write down the homework questions that you will assign from each section. You do not have to do them at this time. You only have to write down the section and the problems you would assign. Choose good questions!

                        4.  Read the syllabus and then print, sign, and submit the final page.

9-2-10

We continued our discussion and work on Unit Planning. Students shared what they learned in their readings. Each group then shared their unit test with the rest of the class. Then, students worked on a Daily Plan (scope-and-sequence) chart for the unit. At the end of the class, we reviewed the course syllabus.

HW:  1.  Complete your group's Daily Plan for the unit.

                         2.  Be prepared to present your content from our unit (given in class) to the rest of the class. (10-15 minutes)

                         3.  Be prepared to present how you would use your technology (given in class) to teach something in this unit to the rest of the class. (10-15 minutes)

9-7-10

Groups finished and presented their Daily Plans, concept explanation, and technology demonstration. Two groups will still have to go on Thursday.

HW:  1.  Work on the first four daily lesson plans for your unit (minus any quizzes that might occur). Two groups will teach the first two of them on next Tuesday.

9-9-10

Two groups finished their presentations. We then worked on the first four lesson plans for the unit. At the end, two groups were chosen to teach two lessons next Tuesday while the other two groups will research SAS and CCSS.

HW:  1.  Corey and Lari and Roger and Jordan will teach their group's first two lessons in the unit.

                         2.  Jeff's group will research the SAS on PDE's website and be prepared to discuss what they have learned.

                         3.  Sarah's group will research the CCSS and be prepared to discuss what they have learned.

                         4.  All groups will have the first four lesson plans completed and ready to submit on next Thursday.

9-14-10

Corey and Lari taught their lessons today (and did a fine job, by the way). We then discussed what Jeff, Bill, and Dan discovered while perusing the SAS site.

HW:  1.  Roger and Ashley will teach their lessons.

                         2.  Sarah, Kelly, and Jessica will discuss the CCSS.

                         3.  All groups will submit their four lesson plans.

9-16-10

Roger and Ashley taught their lessons today (and again, did a fine job). We then discussed what Kelly, Sarah, and Jessica discovered while researching the CCSS. We then divided into groups of two and began our next assignment of closely examining a part of the CCSS and creating a PowerPoint presentation to present to the rest of the class next Tuesday.

HW:  1.  With your partner, create a PowerPoint presentation about your standard in the CCSS. Be sure you have researched the content and can answer questions about it.

9-21-10

We spent most of the day examining the CCSS, with each group presenting their specific grades or subject area. The next Unit creation assignment was then given and discussed.

HW:  1.  READ the TWS packet BEFORE beginning the next project.  (NOTE: All TWS information and pages can be located in the documents tab on the course homepage)

                         2.  With your new group, create Unit 3 in the Advanced Algebra text given. The Unit Goals (written according to the TWS Factor 2), the Assessment Plan (written according to the

TWS Factor 3), and the Instructional Design Table (Factor 4, along with the first five lesson plans) will be due on Thursday, September 30th (at which time students will also be

                              chosen to teach).

We learned how to use Google docs to create a group presentation. We are now uploading our CCSS PowerPoint slides to the doc in order to create one large presentation. We then discussed Assessments, specifically the information on PDE's SAS website. This included information about the Keystones, along with the Anchors and Eligible Content.

HW:  1.  Have your Unit 3 nicely prepared to present.

                        2.  Insert your CCSS PowerPoint into the Google doc.

                        3.  Bill, Jeff, Dan, and Jordan should be prepared to teach on Tuesday.
