The style of writing used in the social sciences is the APA style. Outside information should be recognized by citing through the APA format, which includes providing the author(s)'s last name and the year of publication. You should use a citation when the information is not common knowledge; you should know the questions to ask when determining whether or not something is common knowledge. You should know how to use in text citations and reference pages, as well as quotes, summaries, and paraphrases, to avoid plagiarism. This information is all provided in the Stern book on plagiarism. Good luck!
